As my inbox has become full of deals for Valentine’s Day, I have been pondering about how commercialized the day has become – just as most every holiday has. I realize some of you may cringe everytime you see a Valentine-specific deal because maybe you don’t feel like you have a Valentine. Here is how I look at it – Valentine’s Day is about sharing and giving love, to whomever that may be. I don’t think you have to have a spouse, fiance, boyfriend/girlfriend, to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I also don’t think you need to spend a lot of money to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
All of the jewelry commercials that I have been seeing this past week have been driving me CRAZY! Just because it’s Valentine’s Day, does not mean you need something expensive. I also think that spending a lot of money does not necessarily show a lot of love. Yes – it would be nice, but I think a lot of us set ourselves up to be disappointed on Valentine’s. I personally feel we need to tone things down a bit and try to really appreciate those we love, and even give a little love back to ourselves. I figured I’d go ahead and post some of these Valentine’s Day deals in case you are the flower or chocolate purchasing type, because I’d rather see you save money doing it.
I think we could all be more kind to one another, especially those we love and/or live with. That to me, would really make my day special. A tasty meal and good convo is always good too! I personally would rather get flowers on some random day of the year, and be surprised, than on Valentine’s Day. Little notes of love and appreciation would just make my day – or even my year!! lol
I mainly wanted to write this post so that you all don’t feel like you have to go out and spend money that you feel you may not have, to get your Valentine something. Things from the heart are really the best. If you have kids, you can try something simple such as using a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut their PB&J.
I did this post a while back where you take a piece of bread and a paint brush. Stick a little food coloring in a tad of milk and paint something special on the piece of bread. You can write I Love You, draw a heart, etc. Then you toast the bread, and the writing or drawing stands out. It’s fun, special and free! This is shown in the picture above, with one of my twin boys. It’s a few years old and I can’t believe how babyish he looks! Aww!
So relax, be happy, and just enjoy the loved ones you have. I have a very sick friend right now who just started chemo this week and it really brings some perspective back. If you have your health, then don’t take it for granted and just LOVE, because that to me is the most important thing.

I don’t need Valentine’s Day, It’s my Birthday so it means more to me then all the expensive stuff. I would rather get something hand made from the kids it means so much more. I totally agree with your post, Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I’m not a huge V Day fan myself either…I get my kids the little candy hearts and some cards we hand make for the grand parents…as for my husband and I, well we usually enjoy a nice chinese buffet with the kids…we treat it like any other day..except for maybe a couple extra “I love you”…
