About a week and a half ago, I was able to have a very fun little girl’s party centered around the new DVD, An American Girl: McKenna Shoots For The Stars Blu-ray Combo Pack. I sent my boys away to my parent’s house and had Brielle invite several little girlfriends over (and their mommies – my friends). I was sent rubber American Girl bracelets for each of the girls to wear, and activity sheets for the girls to work on. While we waited for all of our guests to arrive, the girls did mazes, crossword puzzles and other fun activities around The American Girl movie.

I had each of the girls bring one of their favorite dolls, for a Dolly And Me party. I served miniature powdered and glazed donuts, as well as drinkable yogurt.
It was time for the movie to begin.
Just in time for the Olympics, and Gymnastics pre-trials, McKenna Brooks™, a determined and confident young gymnast, greets us all in this all-new modern-day adventure. McKenna™ is on track to make the regional competitive gymnastics team but off-track in school, where she’s suddenly struggling to keep up. When her teacher suggests a tutor, she’s embarrassed and desperate to keep it a secret from her friends. Then a bad fall at the gym sidetracks her from her favorite sport. Will she recover in time to make the team? Can she succeed in school, too? McKenna™ needs to focus on her strengths to overcome her challenges – and, with the help of family and friends, find a way to believe in herself again.
The little girls loved the movie and sat really well throughout it. The movie has a few great messages such as never giving up, school work is important, and it is important to give new kids/friends a chance to get to know you. At first I was thinking that McKenna sure has a lot of attitude for her age, but they did a great job of having her mature throughout the movie, and develop herself.
One of my guests was able to win a door prize – a copy of the movie, but so do one of you!
You can get An American Girl: McKenna Shoots For The Stars, on Blu-ray and DVD, now. The movie is also Scheduled to Air on Saturday July 14, 2012 at 8/7c on NBC.
