Skylanders Giants
One of THE hottest games and gifts this season is the brand new Skylanders Giants! The original Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure was released last year around this time, and it was a big hit among many. Right now Spyro’s Skylanders Adventure is the number 1 selling game and highest selling action figure in the country – beating out brands like Star Wars and Batman. It has been quite the game, and I believe Skylanders Giants will do the same. It has become my boys’ absolute favorite video game. On October 21, 2012, Skylanders released a second game: Skylanders Giants. It is kind of like a sequel if you will.
Skylanders Giants plays similar to the original Skylanders, if you are familiar. Not only that, but the original characters can play in the new Giants game. Unfortunately, Giants cannot go into the original game, but the versatility is still great! If you already own Skylanders for one of your game consoles, you do not need to purchase the full Starter Kit, because your original Portal of Power will work with the new game! I love that!! There is also a vast (and FREE!) virtual world online at Skylanders Universe. It’s one stop shop for Skylanders fans providing hours of added value play for kids and tweens with creative and engaging elements.
For those of you who are completely new to the world of Skylanders (and Skylanders Giants), let me fill you in.
Skylanders Giants builds on the success of its predecessor by dramatically enhancing the magic of bringing toys to life in an exciting virtual experience as first introduced in Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure. The game features 16 new characters, led by eight GiantSkylanders, who are twice the size of their comrades. The Giants each have exciting new powers and abilities to match their size. Joining the Giants are eight new Skylanders, who also feature never-before-seen powers. Additionally, Skylanders Giantsintroduces new LightCore™ Skylanders that glow when on or near the Portal of Power®—no batteries required. Fan-favorites from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure return as Series 2 characters featuring an all new “Wow Pow” upgrade power as well as the choice of more than one upgrade path. And all your favorite characters from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure are 100% compatible with Skylanders Giants—stats and customizations intact.
I asked my kids how to describe Skylanders and this is what they said. “It is a game with a portal that you put characters on. You stick the characters on the portal and they connect to the game/disc that you insert in your gaming console. The characters each have their own powers and strengths. You can upgrade them during the game.” Sound cool?
