How to Winterize Your Cat Friendly Home + Tidy Cats Giveaway

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Purina for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

The days are getting colder and getting that little nip in the air that let us know that fall and winter are here! When the seasons start to change, so do my cats’ attitudes about being outdoors. My cats, who practically live outside during the spring or summer, now just love to curl up near the fire, or find a warm spot near the window. Because of this, I have learned a few tricks to Winterize my cat friendly home to keep us all happy with their winter indoor-lifestyle!

•Scratching Post – In the summer my cats scratch trees and other fun things outside. However, when they stay inside more, their first choice is to scratch turns to our furniture. To keep kitty from scratching the sofa, get her a nice scratching post that she can climb on and scratch.

• Cat Toys – You may want to throw a few cat toys into kitty’s stocking this winter to keep her entertained and getting some exercise while inside during those cold winter months. Some of the favorites in our home are laser pointers and the sticks with a feather tied on the end.

• Warm Bed – Cats seem to have an amazing ability to find the absolute most comfortable spot in the entire house to sleep on, especially on cold days! If this happens to be your side of the bed (and you don’t want to give it up to the cat) you may want to create a comfy spot for your cat to curl up on. You may want put together a little box with a blanket for her to curl up in, or buy a foam pet bed. There are no guarantees, however that they will not ditch the nice comfy bed you created and take residence in your favorite spot instead!

• Indoor Formula Cat Food – if your cat has made a drastic change from being mostly outdoor in the summer to being mostly indoor in the winter, you may want to think about switching to an indoor formula of food. If their lifestyle has dramatically changed, their nutritional needs have probably changed right along with it. An indoor formula of food can help your cat adjust for this, so that your cat doesn’t put on a few too many “holiday pounds”.

• Cat Litter – If your cats are anything like mine, they prefer to “go” outside during the warm months. But when the weather turns cold, the litter box is their new best friend! For this reason, I like to use to high quality cat litter to keep my house smelling springtime fresh, and to make clean up easy!

I recently discovered new Tidy Cats Light Weight Formula that provides continuous odor control and absorption that you expect from Tidy Cats Cat Litter with a clever clumping action for easy scooping, and is 99.9% dust free.
