Blind Taste Test with Beyond Meat

Disclosure
With so many different diets in the world I try to be open-minded and incorporate a variety of meal types into our diets. I personally believe in moderation in all things, for healthy and happy living. With this in mind, I occasionally feed my family vegetarian meals. I do this in different ways, but this week I opted for a blind taste test with Beyond Meat – The Future of Protein. Beyond Meat claims to taste and look an awful lot like meat, without the negative benefits meat can have, so I wanted to put them to the test.

Beyond Beef

I prepared a dish that would typically have ground beef in it, and substituted it for Beyond Beef Crumbles. I was a little skeptical at first, but when I started sauteing the crumbles in a little olive oil, the smell and texture really started coming together. These crumbles are made of pea protein and are soy-free and gluten-free. The only crumble of it’s kind on the market. With Beyond Meat you get all the protein with half the fat of meat.

For those of you really wanting to be health conscious you can be at ease knowing Beyond Meat believes in non-GMO and vegan products, full of flavor.

Blind Taste Test with Beyond Meat in an easy weeknight skillet

During one busy weeknight I quickly fried up the Beefy Crumbles, then tossed in some cooked rice and a can of stewed tomatoes. I cooked it all for a bit longer then topped with small amount of shredded cheese and popped the skillet in the oven at 350°F for about 8 minutes. A super quick and easy vegetarian meal was served.

As we sat down to dinner, nobody questioned or noticed a thing. Sure mom was taking a ton of photos, but that is fairly normal with a blogging mother. After I could tell everyone was pleased with dinner and hadn’t noticed anything off, I let them all know that they weren’t actually eating beef.

Some looked slightly concerned while others began to study and try to figure out what they were in fact eating. Not much can be put past my husband, but he said that if he didn’t know any different, he would have thought he was actually eating meat. Beyond Meat =1, Family = 0.
