Empty Tomb Rolls for Easter Sunday

Empty Tomb Rolls for Easter Sunday. Hide a marshmallow in the middle of the roll and have a sweet and sticky surprise inside.

With Easter just a week away, I want to give you a really fun a tasty recipe to wow everyone! I shared this Empty Tomb Rolls recipe last year around Easter, but I made them again and took better pictures this time.

The Empty Tomb Rolls are created from a basic dough recipe, wrapped around a marshmallow, and baked. I happen to love my mom’s basic rolls so that’s the recipe I use (included below). The reason these rolls are great for Easter is because of their symbolism. The dough/bread represents Christ’s Tomb, and the marshmallow represents Jesus Christ. After the roll is baked, the marshmallow melts into the bread and the roll is left with an empty hole, representing the Empty Tomb after Christ was resurrected. It doesn’t hurt that these rolls are super yummy too!

You can also make these with crescent rolls. It will go much faster, but it won’t taste quite as good.

dough-circles

Make your favorite dinner roll recipe, roll the dough out flat, then cut into circles. (My favorite roll recipe is below)

marshmallow-roll

Wrap each piece of dough around a large marshmallow making sure dough seals around the marshmallow.

rolls

Brush each roll with melted butter and roll the dough ball in sugar and cinnamon mixture (this step can be omitted), but would make for a great breakfast this way.
Place each roll in a greased pan and cover pan with plastic wrap. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, remove from refrigerator and let rise until double. If it doesn’t rise much, it will be completely okay.

easter rolls

Bake at 375° until golden brown – about 15-20 min. If you did not roll the dough in cinnamon and sugar, you can brush a little butter over the tops, while warm.

Because I think my roll recipe is OFF THE HOOK, I have a printable recipe that includes MY ROLLS and how to make the empty tomb rolls. Just click over to the next page!

  • I put .con instead of .com for my email so I’ll post again just in case. Can you skip the overnight refrigeration or no?

  • I sent you an email, Sara. I’d imagine you can skip the overnight refrigeration and have it work just fine. I just like making it the night before so I don’t have to get up early. Please do let me know how it works for you.
