To help parents out with a new school year, I’m sharing school fashion trends for 2021, plus a Zulily fashion design contest. I’m talking good prize money, so keep reading to find out what you need to do! I’ve partner with Zulily to share all the details, but all opinions are my own.
Whether it feels like summer has just begun or not, we’re not that far off from the start of another school year. Unlike last year, most schools are in-person and back-to-school shopping actually means something. Without being hidden behind a computer screen kids get to show off their personal styles with in-person learning and they couldn’t be more excited about it. Zulily surveyed 1,000 kids across the country and learned that kids are ready to shed their stay–at–home sweats in favor of something bolder.
After the last year I think it’s important to allow kids to express themselves through their own fashion choices. By sharing their personal style with Zulily, kids can win a shopping spree and college money. First let’s see what the top trends going into the 2021 school year are, according to a trend report made by kids, for kids.
2021 School Fashion Trends
Trend 1 – Movers and Shakers: Kids want to feel their best, which means confidence and in turn boosts school performance. Kids are looking for clothing that not only looks good, but allows them to feel, do and be their best selves.
Trend 2 – Glue Guns and Glitter Bombs: Ready to ditch the sweats, kids are looking to shed their comfy layers and get creative when it comes to their clothing. 90% of kids say the clothes they wear represent their personality and individuality. 87% of kids say they’d love to take a class where they learned to sew, dye or create their own clothing.
Trend 3 – Retro & Reimagined: Feel proud, mom and dad, because kids are turning to their parents for inspiration on retro styles.

Fashion Design Contest
Now for that fashion design contest!! Do you have a budding fashion designer between the ages of 5-14? Zulily wants to help bring their fashion style dreams to life and I’m telling you, this is a good one. Through July 31, 2021, kids ages 5-14 are being asked to share their fashion sense and they need your help. Parents across the country are required to submit an Instagram post on behalf of their kids, reflecting their child’s unique sense of design and fashion.
Six inspiring designs will be chosen to win a $6,000 back-to-school prize package ($5,000 for education and $1,000 shopping spree)! There will also be a bonus opportunity for the winning parents and children to participate in a design session with Zulily, providing creative inspiration for an exclusive Zulily capsule collection to be launched in 2022 that will range from swimwear to back-to-school styles.
All your kiddos need to do is create a fresh, unique fashion style – whether it’s an outfit they put together, a flat lay, design sketch, collage, mood board, etc. and then post it as a photo to your public Instagram with the hashtags #zulilycontest and #UniquelyZu for a chance to win.
