Top Gun: Maverick Movie Review

I’ve been waiting 35 years for another Top Gun, then had to wait an additional year for Top Gun: Maverick to release. The wait was worth every minute! They got every element of the new Top Gun right and this is my Top Gun: Maverick Movie Review.

I cried, laughed, my heart raced and that was just for the beach football scene which was a tribute to the original Top Gun beach volleyball scene. I had all those feels multiple times during the advance screening I was invited to attend. Add to that: exhilaration, intense emotions and beautiful feelings of patriotism and gratitude for our courageous men and women in uniform.

The sheer power of Naval Aviation and real world weaponry is mind boggling. I have the deepest respect for those who push not only themselves in training, but also push the envelope to achieve all they can.

Tom Cruise plays Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

Top Gun: Maverick showcases not only the intelligence and skill of our nation’s military aviators, but also our fleet of aircraft – including the almost ready to roll out SR-72 Darkhorse. You’ll be on the edge of your seat watching this amazing reconnaissance plane perform.

The visuals of Top Gun: Maverick are absolutely stunning! If you can, see it in IMAX which enhances the experience. The cinematography is impeccable. The music is the best I’ve heard and certainly pays homage to the original score of Top Gun, yet adds some new and thrilling songs. Watch Lady Gaga perform Hold My Hand which was written for the Movie. Harold Faltermeyer and Hans Zimmer put together an incredible score, which helped to keep me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning strains of the Top Gun Anthem. I’m talking goosebumps.

MONICA BARBARO PLAYS PHOENIX, LEWIS PULLMAN PLAYS BOB, JAY ELLIS PLAYS PAYBACK AND MILES TELLER PLAYS ROOSTER IN TOP GUN: MAVERICK FROM PARAMOUNT PICTURES, SKYDANCE AND JERRY BRUCKHEIMER FILMS.

I can’t say enough for the cast of characters. Tom Cruise was at his best and honored the original role with maturity and integrity. Miles Teller was perfect to play Rooster,  the son of “Goose” and added emotional intensity. Val Kilmer was again “Ice” but mature and loyal (yes, there were tears at their reunion scene, not only to see how their relationship had progressed, but also acknowledging the health trials Kilmer has faced).

JENNIFER CONNELLY PLAYS PENNY BENJAMIN AND TOM CRUISE PLAYS CAPT. PETE “MAVERICK” MITCHELL IN TOP GUN: MAVERICK FROM PARAMOUNT PICTURES, SKYDANCE AND JERRY BRUCKHEIMER FILMS.

Top Gun: Maverick honored the original movie and moved the story to cutting edge, real world issues of our day.

It’s always been a dream of mine to be on an aircraft carrier. Watching the crews on the aircraft carrier was the stuff dreams are made of. Chills and a deep sense of patriotism.

So, put on your flight suit and get ready to take off with Top Gun: Maverick. It has it ALL!
