Grilled Cheese French Toast!! Weird or Tasty?!

by Emily Buys 1 Comment

Because this week’s Pinterest Challenge is taking a little longer than I would have hoped, I thought I would postpone it until tomorrow morning and share a recipe with you tonight, instead.

While staying at a hotel with my family a couple of weekends ago, I saw the hotel restaurant advertising their Grilled Cheese French Toast for breakfast – and thought, hmmm, I could do something with that! I think they titled it something different, but I made my own interpretation of it and came up with this. You may think this sounds weird – I did, but I wanted to give it a try, and it was a hit! I’d love to hear if this is something you would try or not! Or if it’s too strange of a combination for you.

Grilled Cheese French Toast

2-4 eggs (depending on how many you want to make)
Glug of milk – like my terminology here?
bread slices
sliced cheese
butter

powdered sugar for sprinkling
jam for topping

Mix a couple of eggs and a small glug of milk (a couple of Tablespoons). I actually ended up adding a 3rd egg to feed my whole family.

Slice up some real cheese and place it between two pieces of bread. Then dip your sandwich into the egg mixture, and flip carefully, to coat both sides.

Fry your grilled cheese french toast in a little butter. When the first side is lightly browned, flip to lightly brown the other side.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar immediately and serve with jam! We were slightly nervous of the result, but we all really really enjoyed it! The nice mixture of sweet and cheddar really complimented one another well, and I think it could work for any meal! Next time I do this I am going to try cream cheese, softened and combined with a little powdered sugar – Yum!! A few different variations to this dish!
