Homemade Banana Cream Pie - no pudding version!

Banana Cream Pie


It has been a super long time since I posted this recipe, and Banana Cream Pie was sounding good today, so I thought I would share it again. My mom’s pie crust recipe is really the best pie crust ever! One of these days (and hopefully soon), I will make this recipe again, and make my whipped cream a little prettier. I was a pie baking amateur when I last made this recipe. Get the recipe and step-by-step instructions for my pie crust.

Banana Cream Pie and Best Pie Crust Ever
Cook time: 10 mins
Total time: 10 mins
Serves: 10
Ingredients
  • Banana Cream Pie:
  • 1 pie crust
  • 8 Tbs cornstarch
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 4 cups cold milk
  • 2 Tbs butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 3 bananas, sliced
Instructions
  1. Banana Cream Pie Instructions:
  2. MIX cornstarch, sugar, salt.
  3. ADD to COLD milk in a medium size saucepan.
  4. STIR to dissolve.
  5. Cook mixture over MEDIUM heat (Stir constantly to prevent scorching) until bubbly.
  6. Pour 1/4 of the hot mixture into beaten eggs.
  7. Mix thoroughly.
  8. Return mixture to the saucepan.
  9. Continue cooking until mixture bubbles.
  10. Blend in butter, vanilla and pinch of nutmeg.
  11. Pour half of the mixture into baked pie shell.
  12. Cover layer with sliced bananas.
  13. Pour remainder of the mixture on top of the bananas.
  14. Let the filling cool– then refrigerate until firm.
  15. Top the pie with whipped cream and serve
