DIY Sponge Canvas Painting

DIY Sponge Canvas Painting

DIY Sponge Canvas Painting

The vote for this last week’s Pinterest Challenge was for the Sponge Painting inspired by Two Girls Being Crafty. I absolutely LOVE how this turned out. This is a much cheaper way to get a beautiful painting, much like one that World Market sells!

In case you aren’t familiar with the Pinterest Challenge, each Thursday I have my readers leave a comment on this post, with a link to a pin on Pinterest, nominating that project or recipe for that week’s challenge. Then on Friday I have a vote with my top three favorite nominations. I then have until the next Thursday to post my challenge. So here is the post where I display my challenge, and ask for a nomination for next week’s project!

DIY Sponge Canvas Painting

The Sponge Painting is done on a canvas, which was perfect because canvases are on sale at Michaels, plus there is a coupon for an additional 20% off. So if you want to try this project out, purchase your canvas this week! I decided to use a long canvas for a landscape photo to go above my bed, and I am very pleased with how it turned out.

You simply paint or spray paint the canvas a neutral/light color, just to get rid of the stark white. Then you can either purchase an acrylic paint pen, or paint the branches with a paint brush (which is what I did). Then choose approximately 4 colors to use as your blossoms/polka dots. I chose colors that match the colors in my house, which is very fun.

The polka dots will get painted on with these round sponges for stenciling. They are round, but flat on top – to make nice circles. There is no real wrong way to place the dots. I just started with one color and size and worked my way around. I would love to hear if you are trying any of the Pinterest Challenges with me – and to see pictures!

Great job! Here is one that would make good use of scrap paper or fabric.
