I just wrote up a post about how this past week I decided to be spontaneous and take my family on a much needed mini vacation. We first drove up to Donner Summit for a couple of hours of snow play, which you can read about HERE, then to stay a night or two in Reno, NV. I saw that the hotels in Reno were offering awesome prices, and decided to go for it; and we could figure out what we’d do when we got there.
To give you an idea of what great hotel prices in Reno are, I was seeing a lot of prices from $29-$39!!! One of our favorite places to stay when we do go to Reno is Silver Legacy. Silver Legacy was kind enough to put us up for not one, but two nights! Unfortunately, hubby needed to get back home to real life, to study, so we only enjoyed the one night stay. But boy did we enjoy it.
Our room was on the 30th floor and was so spacious!! I don’t think I have ever stayed in such a large room, which was extremely nice with our large family. There were even two bathrobes and accompanying slippers waiting for us in the closet! Being on the 30th floor, we really had an amazing view. We got to overlook the city, the freeway, and of course, the snowcapped mountains!
One of my favorite things about Silver Legacy, aside from how beautiful I think the hotel is, is that it is connected to two other hotels, for a variety of fun. If you are going with your girlfriends, or your spouse, you really can find everything you need just in Silver Legacy, but if going with little ones, it’s nice to explore some of the other venues. Walk just a little ways and you end up in Circus Circus, where you can have lots of family fun watching shows and playing carnival games. Then there is the skywalk which connects the hotel to the Eldorado, where has an arcade and nightly shows. Silver Legacy has ongoing performances and shows that are a definite attraction in of themselves!
The Silver Legacy really is our number one choice because you get such elegance for such a great price! I think it’s the nicer of the three hotels. Because Reno is a city of Casinos and gambling, with the biggest list of NFL sportsbooks in the county, Silver Legacy has their large casino down a set of escalators, where you will also find a the very popular Aura Ultra Lounge.
Aura was voted “Best Casino Bar” in the Reno News. It was also reviewed in The Best of Northern Nevada poll “and sets a new level of sexy sophistication and sheer elegance for nightlife destinations in downtown Reno.”
If you’re looking for a delicious meal, Sterling’s Seafood Steakhouse would be a spectacular choice. This elegant restaurant sits not too far from the front desk, and just a short walk away from the nightlife. Sterling’s is a thirteen-time Wine Spectator Award of Excellence Winner! Because I had all of my children with me, I did not get the pleasure of dining at Sterling’s, but next time I am alone with hubby, Sterling’s is where you will find us!
For breakfast on our second day in Reno, we decided to head to the Flavors Buffet for a large and filling breakfast buffet. My kids love a buffet, as do I, and breakfast was the perfect choice for us. We headed down for a late breakfast, and we all filled up on fresh fruit, omelets, biscuits and gravy, eggs, hashbrowns, pastries of every kind, and so much more! I have been watching what I eat a bit more lately, and was able to stay within my calories because I had a DELICIOUS Egg-white omelet and so much fabulous fruit! YUM! The service was impeccable as well. I really do love a high quality buffet!
Well, our stay at Silver Legacy was really a treat. In my next post “Mini Vacation Part 3”, I will talk about one other great activity we did as a family, while in Reno. We went to the new Discovery Museum, which is a hands-on museum – perfect for the age of my children!
If you are ever heading to Reno, please do check out Silver Legacy, and their fun event calendar. I wish I was staying there this week because Jeff Dunham is performing there – a hilarious comedian!! I believe I saw that Kelly Clarkson will be there coming up as well!
I was provided with a free night’s stay at the Silver Legacy, to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed are my own.
