Mirror Mirror Movie Review

Many of you likely know that “Mirror Mirror” hits theatres today! I was able to take my whole family to see Mirror Mirror last weekend, and we had so much fun! In case you aren’t completely aware, Mirror Mirror is a spin off of the traditional Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, where “An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright.”

Julia Roberts is absolutely delightful in Mirror Mirror. For being a wicked queen, she is so funny and charming. The queen is trying to get married to Prince Charming because she has run out of money to keep up her fancy lifestyle. The town over which the queen rules, is very poor and destitute due to the queen taxing them heavily, to keep up her life. So, the queen is desperate, and needs the young and handsome Prince Charming to fall in love with her. The queen even stoops to give Prince Charming a love potion, but accidentally gives him a Puppy Love potion, which makes the prince behave like a puppy who loves his master. It’s quite adorable!

The Prince’s true heart however, belongs to that of Snow White. Snow White is played by the lovely Lily Collins. She is a tough, beautiful, and determined young lady, who wants the townspeople to return to singing and dancing through the town, like they did when her father was in rule.

Trying to escape forest’s terrifying beast, and the Queen’s righthand man, played by the hilarious Nathan Lane, Snow White comes across the Dwarves. The Seven Dwarves are not so little. They have slinky type stilts that make them into giants, who thieve throughout the forests. When the Dwarves find Snow White, that are not completely smitten at first, but of course, they all fall in love with her after a while. They teach Snow White to fight, to help take back her kingdom.

As you can tell, the story is a little different than we have once known. Mirror Mirror is lighthearted and will keep you laughing and smiling throughout.

I don’t think that my 6 year olds and 2 year old got all of the humor in it, but they sat really well throughout the movie. My 2 year old did get squirrely about half way through the movie, so I don’t know that this movie is completely geared to the really little ones. However, the costumes are absolutely phenomenal, and I think that really got my little girl’s eye at the beginning.

Have a fun date night, or a fun family day out this weekend and head to Mirror Mirror!

Allied THA provided tickets for my family to attend Mirror Mirror.
