Win a Health & Wellness Trio from Chosen Foods

by Emily Buys 123 Comments

Health & Wellness Trio from Chosen Foods

I have something unique and cool to feature in the 2012 Holiday Gift Guide, today. Health & Wellness is an important topic and something we should all be concerned with to a certain extent. I always say, “all things in moderation”. I don’t think we need to get extreme and become consumed with our health, but there are definitely some easy things we can do to take care of ourselves.

Whether you want to do more to improve your overall health, or you know someone who is health conscious, the Wellness Trio from Chosen Foods is a great start! The Wellness Trio is comprised of Chia Seeds, Nopal Cactus, Avocado Oil and a mini-mixer. I want to teach you a bit about each of these things, but first, I think this set will make a neat gift to yourself, your spouse, or a health conscious friend or family member.

Being the daughter, and sister, of a Chiropractor, and the spouse of a soon-to-be Chiropractor, health benefits and risks of foods and products is an increasingly popular topic in my family. So many philosophies are pushed on chiropractic students, and my husband and I have had to decide which philosophies and reasonings we will buy into, and which are just “quack-ish”. This has beckoned us to research certain things.

One thing we have decided for sure is that Omega-3s are so good for us. We are not fish eaters in my house, so we have to find other ways to get our Omega-3. One of the ways you can obtain your Omega-3, other than capsules is with Chia Seeds. These tiny little seeds have so many benefits in them! They are the Ancient Superfood, which allow you to reap the benefits of Omega-3, Antioxidants, Fiber and Protein. Chia Seeds come from the AztecChia, grown in the highlands of central Mexico. They are a non-GMO, 100% natural, pesticide-free seed that boast more protein than every other ancient grain. They contain more antioxidants than blueberries. A nice bonus – the chia can increase fullness, decrease caloric intake, and promote weight loss!! I am sticking myself on a steady diet of Chia Seeds to see if this is what I need to help me in my weight loss endeavors, all while getting the benefits of the Omega-3, protein and antioxidants.

The Chia Seeds can be sprinkled on salads, smoothies, yogurt, cereal, or used as a fat replacement in baking. I have only tried the sprinkling so far, but am eager to try it in baking. I’m curious of how it will turn out.

Now let me briefly touch on the Nopal Cactus and Avocado Oil. Nopal Cactus is a Bio-Active Fiber, which is 100% Natural. The benefits of consuming Nopal Cactus is that it supports normal blood sugar, supports weight loss (yay), it contains powerful antioxidants and high fiber. AztecNopal is another non-GMO, bio-active fiber that goes far beyond the power of dietary fiber. This powerful stuff works to decrease cholesterol, blood glucose and regulate digestion, while promoting energy. AztecNopal is one of the few natural foods that contains high amounts of both soluble and insoluble fiber.

When eaten as part of a reduced calorie, balanced diet, AztecNopal may aid in weight loss.

The reason the Nopal Cactus may aid in weight loss is because studies have shown that foods with low glycemic index and reduced net carbs, can be an effective way to manage blood sugar. The AztecNopal also prevents hunger and gives a more constant energy supply. This powerful ingredient has shown that it can increase insulin sensitivity, acting beyond the bounds of dietary fiber, and more like a diabetes medication.

The way to use Nopal Cactus is to try replacing 5-10% of wheat flour with the nopal powder. Studies show that this will increase nutrition without significantly altering the sensory profile. You can also obtain pastas with nopal added to semolina flour.

Lastly, the Avocado Oil. Until recently, I didn’t even know that you could purchase avocado oil. We always hear that avocados are one of the healthiest fats out there, so what a great way to get those good fats than in a healthy oil. The Avocado Oil is a high heat cooking oil (unlike olive oil), which is called AvOmega. The AvOmega avocado oil is unlike other avocado oils in that it is naturally refined without chemicals to preserve the phytonutrients. This makes this particular oil one of the purest, heart-healthy oils on the globe!

If you know of someone who loves to cook, this AvOmega Avocado Oil would make an awesome gift! Chefs agree that AvOmega avocado oil finely coats food, so less is required. This can make us feel better about consuming this kind of fat.

The AvOmega aids in warding off inflammation, because of it’s powerful antioxidants. Research shows that it also has pwoerful anti-aging properties! I haven’t personally been able to test this aspect out yet. Perhaps years more of using this product will show! Avocado oil contains the highest level of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat of any vegetable. This aids in lowering bad cholesterol levels and fighting heart disease.

The AvOmega Avocado Oil has the highest cooking point than all other oils. This helps to prevent foods from producing trans fats and other toxins, during cooking.

Are you feeling informed yet?

I am so excited about this Wellness Trio from Chosen Foods. The products are all so great, and I have learned so much! One lucky Clever Housewife reader will win their own Wellness Trio, valued at $49.95, with all of the same great products that I received! This giveaway will end on 12:01am ET 11/15.
