Captain No Beard by Carole P. Roman

Storytime with the kids can be such a cherished time, and provide great memories for years to come. My kids love being read to at bedtime. Sometimes we make up our own crazy stories, and other times we let the “real” authors do that for us. My boys especially love stories with some action and excitement. Captain No Beard – An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate’s Life by Carole P. Roman, sounds like one of those perfect books that my kids would love. Captain No Beard is an adventure tale geared toward boys and girls ages 3-8. In this tale, you will encounter pirates, mermaids, danger and excitement.

Captain No Beard and his pirate ship The Flying Dragon set sail on quite the adventure with a fearless crew of four. You will meet First Mate Hallie, Mongo the Monkey, Linus the loudmouthed lion, and Fribbit the floppy frog. Just by their names I can tell they are quite the crew!

A once ordinary boy named Alexander, his cousin Hallie and her three stuffed animals, are transformed into the pirate crew of Captain No Beard when they board Alexander’s bed. The bed is transformed into a magical vessel that sails the seven seas on dangerous tide, and exciting adventures.

From what I understand, Alexander (Captain No Beard), gets a little lost over Pirate terminology and gets overwhelmed at all of the responsibility of directing a crew. Alexander is up to the task. He has his crew swab the decks and complete many other typical pirate chores. It sounds like Carole P. Roman has the idea of teaching children responsibility in a fun and unique way.

I love when my kids get a book in their stocking, and Captain No Beard sounds like a fun choice!
