Harman Pellet Stoves Reduce Your Carbon Footprint + Giveaway

by Emily Buys 64 Comments

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Harman Stoves for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Learn how Harman Pellet Stoves Reduce Your Carbon Footprint.

Where I live, January is typically the coldest month of the year. We’ve just come out of January, but February is shaping up to be cold as well. There is nothing I enjoy more on a cold day than curling up by a fire, with a warm blanket and some hot cocoa. A good book or movie doesn’t hurt either. My current home does not have a fireplace or stove, and it makes me sad. I am always looking for reasons to justify purchasing a free standing fireplace, also known as a stove. I grew up with a wood burning fireplace, which is now a gas fireplace. It doesn’t really matter to me, as long as it has a flame and warmth.

I just filed my taxes last week, and everytime I get a new tax return, I think of ways to spend it. Trust me, it’s not hard! One of these next couple of returns will have to get me a fireplace of some sort. Upon filling out my taxes I discovered a new tax credit for a popular heating alternative. Reinstated on January 2, 2013, was the federal tax credit on 75% efficient biomass heating appliances. I didn’t know it existed in the first place. What this means is that qualifying biomass-stoves may be eligible for a tax credit! I like the sound of that! Maybe that’ll be my reasoning with the hubby!

Upon doing some research, I discovered that Harman Pellet Stoves actually reduce your carbon footprint! As you can see in the infographic above, using a pellet stove to heat your home costs 44% less than oil, 47% less than eletric, and 53% less than propane heat. I had no idea! Because biomass fuels are composed of renewable carbon-neutral products, they are also an extremely eco-friendly option.  Uh, I think I can have the hubs sold! In addition to all of that, Harman Pellet stoves come in a variety of colors, styles and sizes.

Do you have a stove or fireplace?

Now for the fun part – a giveaway! Harman would like to keep you informed and warm by allowing one Clever Housewife reader to win a Harman notebook and Harman t-shirt. The notebook is a journal sized book made from recycled materials. It also includes a pen! To enter, simply leave a comment with why you love Harman – or something you learned about Harman from the infographic, or this post. Giveaway will end at 11:59pm PST on 2/24.

I saw one of these for the first time in a small yarn store in upstate NY. It was in January and the store was in a barn because they actually raised sheep and spun their own yarn. There was a couple feet of snow on the ground and it was freezing, but we couldn’t believe how this little pellet stove kept the whole place warm. While I was busy looking at the yarn, my husband was talking to the owner about this stove because he was so impressed.

The U. S. Federal government is offering tax credits for homeowners who purchase qualifying wood- and pellet-burning appliances. What’s better than a tax credit for getting something that does the environment good.
