I believe the natural progression of bike riding goes something like this:

  • Around 1 year old, babes often have those ride-on bikes that convert into walkers. These teach little ones to walk and to ride with the aid of their feet. No pedals on these bikes.
  • Around 2-3, kids often get a big wheel – a bike low to the ground, with three large wheels for extra balance.
  • Around 4-5, kids get their first two wheeler with training wheels.
  • At 5-6 those training wheels come off and they are officially a big kid, riding their two-wheeler without the aid of training wheels.

Now the ages may be slightly different for every child, but this is a typical progression for many children. There is a newer product around now that makes this progression a little different. Ever heard of a tricycle for big kids?

The FlashRider 360, made by Razor, is the coolest three-wheeler I have ever seen for kids! With the dual inclined caster wheels such, kids can watch the world spin by. The FlashRider 360 is for ages 6+ and up to 160lbs. When my twins first started learning to ride two-wheelers, one of the twins crashed into his dad. While there were no serious injuries, my son was kind of traumatized by the experience. He was fearful of riding a two-wheeler for the two following years. When I heard about the FlashRider 360, I just knew it would be perfect for him! This is no big wheel for toddlers – it is a super cool bike for the older kids! I was nervous that when he first saw the FlashRider 360, my son would think it was a baby bike. When he tried it out, he learned quickly that this was one cool bike! His friends always come over and ask to ride it too!


As you can see in the video above, kids can pedal fast or slow, and pull a complete 360°! The kids also love pulling the spark lever which makes sparks fly as they ride/spin! I kid you not when I tell you that my kids LOVE their FlashRider 360! They ride just about every day!

    This would be for my son with autism. His favorite color is red and he has worn the wheels off the rip rider he got a few years ago. He is still terrified at 7 to ride a regular bike and with his birthday in may, this would just be the absolute perfect bike for him!!! Thanks for the chance to make my little man light up!!

    This would be ideal for my son!!! He loves to ride bikes but has trouble balancing on a 2-wheeler. He is 6 now so he wants something that is a cooler big kid bike and doesn’t want training wheels! This would be so great for him while learning to ride his 2 wheeler!

    If I was lucky enough to win this would go to little “N” he turned 3 years old in November and he likes anything that moves. He likes to go fast and if it has wheels it’s for him 🙂
