A few days ago I had a rare chance to have some alone time with my 6 year old son, while my little girl was taking an afternoon nap (a very rare occurrence for her). Instead of going with my first idea of hurrying to get a few extra chores done, I decided the best use of my time would be to spend some one-on-one time with my son. We rarely get that kind of chance, and I didn’t want to waste it!
Mommy and Me Time with Toy Story Zing’Ems Rocket Rumble Playset
I had the Toy Story Zing’Ems Rocket Rumble Playset hidden in my closet for a special occasion, and decided to bring it out for us to play with… After all, a quiet Saturday afternoon, kind of is a special occasion in our house!
My son was so so excited when I brought it out, and couldn’t wait to get it out of the box. It did require some assembly, however it was fairly easy and my son was able to do most of it himself. He is a bit of a constructor, so this was half the fun for him!
Once it was set up, I was able to see that it was basically a classic pinball track with a Toy Story twist.
The set comes with a Buzz Light “Zing’Em” which is a 1 inch figurine with a roller ball on the bottom. The Zing’Em is perfectly weighted so that it always slides and never falls down (kind of like a weeble).
To play, line up the zing ems in the “astroid field” then push the button to advance one of them. Then just pull back the trigger to send the zing em flying around the track, knocking down “zurgbots” and triggering different sounds as it goes!
One of my son’s favorite features was that you can set one of the Zing’Ems on a small ledge at the edge of the track, then when you shoot a second zing em around the track, it triggers a lever that makes the first zing em jump off the ledge! He had a lot of fun with this feature and it really got his creativity flowing! He even engineered a “chain reaction” style course using household items, with the zing em jumping off the ledge being the starting element.
After doing this for a while, we realized that the Zing’Ems slide really really well! With a tiny push they were able to easily glide across my kitchen floor. We had the Buzz Lightyear Zing’Em that was included with the Rocket Rumble Playset, but we also had an additional package of Zing’Ems (sold separately) that had 2 other Toy Story Characters.
Since we had 3 Zing’Ems and my little girl had woken up by this time, we decided to race them across the kitchen floor! It was so much fun, and easy enough for even my 18 month old to do it! I think that a package of Zing’Ems would make a fun toy even if you do not have the playset. As they have 10 different characters to collect, they would be a great little toy to keep on hand and use as a special reward!
I thought this would be the type of toy that my son would play with for 10 minutes then lose interest in, but it really captured his imagination and resulted in hours of fun! I was glad for our fun afternoon filled with laughs, bonding and zing’ems!
I was provided with the Toy Story Zing’Ems Rocket Rumble Playset to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed are my own.
