CRUNCH! That’s Gonna Hurt! Car Accident Photos!

by Emily Buys 36 Comments

I am a shaken up wreck today! Quite literally actually. Today is the first day of classes at the #MonstersUEvent in San Francisco. I am off to tour Pixar Studios tonight, but I didn’t get here with ease. I live about 2.5 hours from San Francisco and it was my job this morning to leave early and pick two other bloggers (good friends) up from the SF airport. There were 50 mph winds blowing my car all around as I drove through all of the agricultural. It was already a stressful drive because I was holding onto my steering wheel for dear life, so I wouldn’t be blown off the road. I made it through all of the wide open spaces, only to hit the last of the morning traffic around Richmond, CA (near Oakland).

utility truck

Only 5 minutes from my hotel, and 25 minutes from the airport, traffic was moving right along at about 50 mph, when all of a sudden there was a stand still. I slammed on my brakes so I wouldn’t hit the person in front of me. I was able to make a complete stop and still have some room between me and the car in front of me. Then I looked up in my review mirror, to make sure the car behind me was able to stop. All I saw was a white utility truck like the one pictured above (but older), swerving to the left, to miss me. Then it happened…. I took pictures because I read that it is necessary to document the damage to your vehicle after a car accident.

He didn’t miss me. I’m so grateful that my kids weren’t in the car because they would have been badly hurt. The tire is mutilated and I was lucky that I was able to pull the car off to the side of the interstate. This happened on a 5 lane freeway and I believe the truck was going around 50, but braking. I was not taken to the hospital, but I hit my head pretty hard on the driver’s side window. I’m starting to wonder if I should be checked out. No wounds or bleeding. I just have a very sore neck, back, head and arm. The guy who hit me apologized and asked me if I was okay. I took these photos after the car was towed and taken to the tow yard. I’ve already taken the car to an auto collision repair shop, and I’ve been told that it might take some time before I can drive it again. Unfortunately, I borrowed my mom’s car today! I’m sorry mom!!!!

It is difficult to tell, but the back window was blown out, as well as the rear side window. The back door was also smashed all the way into the back seat. I’m so lucky that I’m not worse off! I hate that I’ve become a statistic for accidents on the freeway. I didn’t hit the car in front of me, thank goodness, and the fault should all be on the other driver. The tow truck driver was very kind and drove me to my hotel since cabs were backed up. Police officers were on site fairly quickly, because they weren’t too far behind. The crazy thing is that the airbag never deployed! The tow truck driver was shocked! Always be wary as car accidents happen when you least expect it. Sigh – what a way to start a trip huh?! Wish me well!!

Thank goodness you are okay! The van can be replaced, but you can’t! Hope you are feeling better soon!
Our minivan was totalled a couple of years ago when my husband was driving to work. Worst thing was the van was full, it was his week to drive for the carpool. Everyone went to the hospital. There were 5 passengers and him. The guys in the third row seat were pretty banged up, and they all went to the hospital. He was at a red light when a woman driving a truck slammed into him. Witnesses said she never hit the brakes. She was going 55 mph. You just never know.

You should definitely get checked out. You never know when pain might persist and need physical therapy or something more. Always best to just cover your bases up front! I had a similar accident about 6 months ago, and my airbag never deployed either. The police didn’t even respond to mine because it was reported as non-injury.

As with the others, you really should be checked out, sometimes things take days to appear. Better safe than sorry.
So glad you weren’t badly injured.

Wow.. thank God you’re okay! A car can be replaced (sorry mom lol), but you can’t. So glad you didn’t have the kids or even the other bloggers with you. Just so glad you’re okay, but would still get checked out. Sometimes you don’t feel an injury when it first happens..especially in a car accident. I can’t believe the idiot didn’t even feel bad or apologize.. what a jerk!

Thank goodness you’re okay! Please, if you haven’t done so already, get checked out. Especially if you hit your head on the steering wheel – head injuries are nothing to take lightly!

Sorry to hear this happened. Glad you were ok and no kiddos with you. Yes definately go get yourself checked out. THey should have taken you via ambulance at the scene. You dn’t want to mess around with your head. I recall that actress Natasha Richardson who hit her head when skiing and died. She had gone home and had a bad headache and turned out she had a brain hemorrage and died.

Thank God you weren’t hurt worse!! And how inconsiderate of the other driver not to apologize or ask how you were!! It is a blessing your children weren’t with you, it looks like you got hit pretty hard. Hopefully you are okay, and that the rest of your trip goes better than the first part. Thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery!

Glad you are ok and the kid’s weren’t with you! I think you should still be seen by a Dr. … as far as to make sure you’re ok and because when you file against the other insurance for pain and suffering this will show that you take your health seriously when accepting that check! You always have to be precautions when in an accident that wasn’t your fault, that’s what insurance is for!

I’m glad you’re okay. That must have been scary seeing that truck in your rear view mirror. I agree with the other posters that you need to be checked by a doctor.

Glad you’re okay. You’ll probably be sore for a week or two, so take it easy.
The other driver didn’t necessarily surprise me, which is sad. My husband was in a wreck a couple of years ago. This lady turned in front of him, and he slammed on brakes and swerved, but couldn’t avoid her. He jumped out and checked on the woman and she apologized, and admitted guilt. Well, when we filed it on her insurance, she told them, “Oh no, it was his fault, he could have stopped.” Ugh. Took 2 weeks to get them to agree to fix our busted up car because we had to wait on the police report!

It has been extremely windy in the bay area and the valley! It’s been crazy! I saw one guy taking a picture of the side of his house, he had probably 8 huge tumbleweeds that seemed to tumble right into his fence.
Glad your kids were not with you. I hate to say it, but totally figures that the guy didn’t apologize and make sure you were ok. Hope you recover quickly.

If you hit your head on the window pretty hard, you should have it checked. It was probably a company truck he was driving and was upset about that. He still could have shown some concern. Hope you feel better soon.

I wrecked my car a couple weeks ago so I know the feeling! They totaled it and I was bummed since it was a great car. I am sorry you wrecked your van. Then the ins. co didn’t pay near what it was worth. 🙁

I’m sorry to hear that. You should have filed compensation to that driver who wrecked your car but the good thing is you’re not hurt badly. Be careful next time!
