Like most kids, my two kids love being busy! Whether its playing outside, building Legos, or riding bikes, they are always up to something! As the mom, I love seeing them enjoy their day and am so happy that they are always up and active!
However, I feel that we need balance in all things and for us, that means including a few minutes of “downtime” into our routine. It gives my kids a few minutes to calm down and unwind, and gives me a few minutes to tidy up and get dinner started. We schedule our downtime for right before dinner, which I find helps us to calm down and transition from a busy day to a quieter evening. I always gather the kids on my bed and we start with some quiet reading time. This is one of my favorite times of the day! I just love cuddling up with my little ones for story time! Then I let them choose a short tv show to watch (which is when I get a couple things ready for the evening).
I usually have a few TV shows on my DVR, saved special for this time. I try to record a variety of shows for them, but sometimes my selection has been watched over and over so much, that the kids are ready for something new.
Once Upon a Rhyme
Luckily I just received a copy of Nickelodeon’s Once Upon a Rhyme, which is a DVD of 6 individual episodes of some of NickJr’s favorite shows! The DVD includes episodes of: Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, The Fresh Beat Band, Dora the Explorer, Wonder Pets!, and Blue’s Room! Phew… With all of those, you are sure to find something that fits with your kids interests!
All of the episodes on this DVD are fairy tale or nursery rhyme related, which makes it a great compliment to our story-time. How fun would it be to read the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and then watch “Little Red Riding Blue”-Blue’s Room- on the DVD!
For my kids, The Fresh Beat Band, is always a hit! My son loves instruments so those guys are right up his alley! We also think that “Twist” is so funny! The Once Upon a Rhyme DVD includes “The Fresh Beat Band- Royal Wedding”. In this episode the band is excited that they are going to have a royal wedding in their town. However, like us, the princess thinks that Twist is so funny, and falls in love with him. The band has to work together to get the prince and princess back together just in time for the wedding.
In the days ahead it will be fun to explore the other episodes on “The Nickelodeon Favorites: Once Upon a Rhyme” DVD. The thing that I love about it is that it is broken up into individual episodes, so the kids can enjoy just one a day, and feel like they have gotten a special treat by watching a new DVD, without it taking the whole evening to enjoy.
If you have a Team Umizoomi fan, nickelodeon has also released a similar compilation DVD with only team Umizoomi episodes on, called Team Umizoomi Animal Heros, that includes 4 Team Umizoomi episodes.
Both DVDs are on sale right now on Amazon and cost $9.99-$12.29.
I received free Nickelodeon DVDs to facilitate my review. All opinions expressed are my own.
