This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.
For us, school starts back up this week. A new school year always gives me the motivation to start fresh in my resolve to make sure that I give my kids the tools, strategies and support needed to be successful in school. I feel that one of the big ways that I can accomplish this is by keeping my kids healthy and happy through proper nutrition.
Providing healthy food for myself and my family is something that I am very passionate about. Dollar General has now made that even easier, by offering all of my family's favorite KRAFT products in stores, as well as providing some great coupons and recipes on their website, KRAFT products at Dollar General.
This has inspired me to make and keep some nutrition goals for helping my family to be successful this school year.
Here are my goals:
– EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES: Fruits and veggies are so important to kids' overall nutrition. It boosts their immunity levels allowing them to have less sick days, and more healthy learning days in school. However, if your kids are anything like mine, its hard to get them to eat those veggies! On their website, Dollar General has a great recipe for a Creamy Ranch Dip that I am excited to try, to make eating veggies a bit more fun!
– STAY HYDRATED: Proper hydration is vital to healthy nutrition, but sometimes its hard for kids to get a nice refreshing drink on the playground or between classes. I plan to have plenty of drinks available that my kids could just throw in their backpack and keep there for whenever they could use some extra hydration. Dollar General is now selling CAPRI SUN big pouch drinks, which would be a great thing to have on hand for this!
– PROVIDE A HEALTHY AFTERSCHOOL SNACK: After a long day of school, sometimes kids feel like they are starving and start raiding the snack closet. They consequentially grab whatever is closest and end up having a not-so-healthy snack. By planning a fun, yet healthy afterschool snack I can provide another chance for healthy nutrition. While they are enjoying a snack, I can enjoy some down-time with my kids discussing their day, and all the new things that they learned! A healthy after-school snack that is a favorite in my house is a trail mix made by mixing a 1/4 cup of raisins, plain whole-grain cereal, chocolate chips and PLANTERS nuts (now available at Dollar General).
– HAVE A FAMILY DINNER ROUTINE: I am a strong believer in holding family meals around the dinner table. I think that it not only gives parents a chance to provide a healthy meal for their children, but it also gives families a chance to connect and bond on a daily basis. Having a routine of holding family dinners also provides children with an added sense of safety and security that will go with them throughout all of their other daily activities. For busy moms, holding a family dinner might seem a little overwhelming, however having a few "easy meals" on hand, can help with that! Next time you are at Dollar General, consider picking up a few boxes of VELVEETA CHEESY SKILLETS to keep on hand, so that you can stay in the habit of having a dinnertime routine even on those crazy days.
Start this school year off right by setting some nutrition goals of your own that will help your children stay healthy and happy this year!
