“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Lutron. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.”
Last month I introduced you all to Lutron light sensors, to aid you (and me) with the question, “Who left the lights on?” You know, that frustrating moment when you realize that your electric bill is higher than it should be because nobody bothers to turn the lights off after they leave a room. My husband installed two different Lutron motion sensors in our house, and we are finding ourselves asking this question less. As a refresher, we installed a Lutron motion sensor in our pantry and in the upstairs hallway. It took a few days to get used to the fact that the hall light would come on on it’s own, but it has been super nice not having to worry about turning it off. I am still trying to get used to the pantry light coming on by itself. I find myself reaching my arm in to turn on the light, but just the motion of doing so gets the job done. Pretty nifty!
Unsure if Lutron is right for you? The infographic above shares some statistics that will get you thinking about what room in your house, is the one that usually gets the lights left on in. It will also get you thinking as to who the culprit typically is! If you’ve got children, then chances are, your lights are being left on somewhere! If this is a problem in your house, then you could benefit from a Lutron Motion Sensor light switch, and they are super easy to install!
Because the Lutron Motion Sensors turn off on their own, you can be rest assured that when you leave the house, your lights won’t be left on for hours while you’re gone! Just keep in mind that this only applies to the rooms you have the sensors installed in.

I’d want to win the Lutron Maestro Occupancy Sensor C.L. dimmer. We would use it in the bathroom, where the light is left on frequently. That way, too, when we get up at night, it would automatically come on and with the dimmer function, would come on with less light.

Kids are constantly leaving on their bedroom and bathroom lights!! This would be a great help!

I have a question…I was looking at the Giveaway Tools Terms & Conditions that those entering the giveaway have to agree to…the terms ($9 a month) isn’t for those entering giveaways is it? Isn’t it for those who are hosting giveaways? I asked beause I was wondering why we have to agree to those terms if it does not apply to us. Thanks!
Emily Lyon says
Wow I hadn’t ever noticed that before Sue! $9 a month is what I pay. It’s not something any of you have to worry about. That is so strange they have that in their terms for the giveaway itself!!

The dimmer would be lovely for my kitchen. I live in a one bedroom apartment with a newborn and the kitchen light helps light the kitchen and living room. At night when I try puttinf my daughter to sleep I keep the kitchen light on so I can see but it is much brighter than I would like. If I turn it off I can’t see where her pacifier went or anything for that matter. Being able to dim the light so I can see yet not wake her up would be great.

We are pretty careful about not leaving unnecessary lights on, but I would love to have this switch for my front hallway. When the light is on, it sort of blends in with the lights in the living room,so it is easy to forget to turn it off.

The bathroom light gets left on as much as the kitchen light in our house. I think the sensor would definitely help us in one of these areas. The scary thing about bathroom is if you are still too long, you could be sitting in the dark 😉

I would use the sensor switch downstairs where the family room/laundry and desk area resides. Any number of people will come and go downstairs leaving the light on because others are there, others are about to go back down. Then again at the end of the night it is not always obvious that no one else is going down.
Kris Ares says

I would use it in the walk-in closet, a room that I constantly walk out of leaving the light on. I usually don’t realize it until I go into the closet the next time, and that can be hours, or even overnight. This would be great to use there!!
joseph gersch says
iwould use it in the kitchen where the lights are always on
Deb C says
The kitchen is the one most often left on but I really need this for another room with two entryways but the switch is only on one of them. It means you have to walk across the room in the dark to get to it. This light switch would be so perfect!

I think it’s probably the kitchen here.

I would put the Lutron Maestro Occupancy Sensor Switch in the hallway to our garage so the light will automatically turn on when my hands are full carrying packages in from the car.
