Energizer is talking family safety, which is a topic that is very important to me. As such, they’ve asked me to introduce their Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program, in addition to giving away a family safety kit! All opinions expressed are my own. There is nothing more important to me in this life than keeping my family safe and healthy. I’m sure that many of you can agree with that statement, because our loves mean the world to us! There are the obvious ways of keeping our kids safe, such as telling them not to talk to strangers, buckle their seat belts, look both ways before crossing the street, eat their vegetables, stay away from dangerous situations, don’t do drugs, etc. Have you ever thought about what you are physically doing to keep them safe? There is something so simple that I’ll bet many of us don’t think about, which could save a life – changing the batteries of your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors!
Energizer, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and fire departments nationwide join forces for the Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program to raise awareness of the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes. Most of the states in our country have daylight savings. All they are asking us to do is to remember to change the batteries on our detectors, when we change our clocks twice a year. Pairing this task with the task of changing the clocks is a great and easy way to remember to do it! Because we just had to change our clocks so go check your detectors and make sure they are in good working order! Here are a couple of facts to really get you thinking about the importance of those detectors and alarms.
- 38% of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms
- 24% of fatal fire injuries occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries.
I’d like to recommend you take a night in the next week to review your family’s home escape plan and find out the benefits of having a residential fire suppression system, in addition to making sure your house is as safe as it can be. Make sure your kids know what to do in the case of an emergency. Where will you all meet – by the mailbox? At the neighbor’s house? You can find fire safety tips, a home escape plan that you can download and draw your family’s home escape plan, as well as a coloring and activity sheet on the Energizer Bunny’s Facebook page.
The Change Your Clock Change Your Battery® program is just one of the ways Energizer brings to life the company’s commitment to making a positive impact in communities across the country. that’s positivenergy™ For more information, please visit energizer.com/change and facebook.com/energizerbunny.
