2014 is going to be different for me, compared to the last 2-3 years. I am determined and motivated to make that happen. I had my 2.5 year bump in the road, where I reached a new low in the health department for me and my weight, and I’m ready to get myself back! I have already begun the biggest diet of my life and so far I am THRILLED with the results! I weigh in tomorrow for week 1, but as of today I had already lost 5.6 lbs!! I’ll give the official week 1 report via my video diary on my Youtube channel. I have more energy and happiness than I’ve had in a very very long time.
The diet isn’t all I have though. Music has always been a very big part of my life. I took piano lessons from 4th grade through college. I minored in music, and while I focused on classical and a touch of jazz, I have always maintained a love for nearly all types of music. As a teenager I used the piano as a way to escape from the chaos of the day, and it would fill my spirit with calmness and peace. I think that in the last couple of years that I have been struggling, the music has kind of been gone. Sure I listen to the radio when I’m in the car, but music was just missing from my life, and I didn’t have that escape anymore. The flame went out in me. However, with the start of the new year and my goals to be a healthier, happier me, I am happy to report that the music is back!
I believe music can be a great therapeutic companion, especially while working out. Exercising isn’t always fun for everyone, but music definitely helps. I listen to certain types of music when I need high energy, calming music for when I want to relax or need to concentrate on writing, and then all the in between while I do my daily chores. Because my current diet is pretty intense, I am not allowed to have intense workouts. However, I am using my fitbit tracker to help insure that I still get up and stay active. Even if I am not supposed to run, that doesn’t mean walks aren’t great to do! Besides, the Northern California weather is perfect! I’m praying for rain, but it is lovely outside.

You know, I never understand how people work out WITHOUT music, lol! I have to have that there to keep me going, make me work harder and just give me a boost when I would otherwise want to quit. For me, music is also present when I’m writing, as just something in the background to let me zone out into whatever topic I’m discussing. Other than that, music always makes me want to move, so if it’s on, I’m probably being active and having fun! 🙂 Music brings a whole new level of enjoyment to the day and it’s often therapeutic, so I love your post!
