Did you know that March 20th is International Day of Happiness? Read on for some ideas on how to spread the joy and to learn how my sponsors at Acts of Happiness want to encourage happiness through kind acts, today!
Have you ever noticed how one thoughtful act can completely brighten your day? A few days ago a thoughtful act from a friend completely made my day!
Recently a lady from my church posted on Facebook that she was headed to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Being that it has always been a wish of mine to go to New Orleans, I posted a comment telling her how excited I was for her, and how I would love to go to one day! I ooooh’ed and aaahhh’ed over her trip photos and gave the occasional “like” or “how fun!!!” comment on them, and thought nothing more of it. Then last Sunday, this same lady came up to me and dropped a handful Mardi Gras beads into my purse! She told me “Until you get to go to New Orleans I brought a little bit of New Orleans to you!” It was completely unexpected and completely made my day! I really don’t even know her that well, but she took some time out of her day to think of me, and that really touched me!
Today is International Day of Happiness, and I can’t think of any better way of celebrating then by sharing that kind of thoughtfulness with someone else. Acts of Happiness wants to get the word out to see how many people can do a simple act of happiness TODAY! An act of happiness doesn’t need to be anything huge. It could be as simple as sending a text to a friend, taking time to talk to a neighbour, paying for a stranger’s drink at a coffee shop, sending a note to a family member, or spending some one-on-one time with a child.
Acts of Happiness are contagious! Once one kindness is enacted, there is a a ripple effect that could touch 100’s of lives from that single act. Acts of Happiness has a fun way to try and track how many original acts of kindness can be enacted in one day! To join the movement go to Acts of Happiness and pledge to do one simple act of happiness, today. When you pledge to do an act of kindness for someone else, Acts of Happiness continues the giving by donating $1 per pledge to Big Brothers, Big Sisters (up to $25,000). Now that’s a ripple! While you are there, take a few additional steps and you can even be entered into a drawing for a 7-day Caribbean Cruise for 4, or one of 5 $50 Visa Gift Cards.
Share a little kindness today, it brings happiness to the lives of others and even adds a little happiness to your own life. In this way happy living is brought to you by acts of happiness… And Acts of Happiness is brought to you by live happy.
