I was asked to be a ScholarShare ambassador, and as such will share my thoughts and information on the program. Compensation will be received, but all opinions expressed are my own.
I have four children and they are not getting any younger. In fact, as much as I would like to freeze time on occasion, these kiddos are creeping closer and closer to the time they fly the coup and head off for college and missions. That’s the plan anyway. How this is all going to work is still a bit of a mystery to me.
I’m sure you have heard that when someone sets a goal and actually writes it down, they are more likely to achieve that goal. Have you set goals for college savings for your children? Do you also have a plan in place? With my oldest being 10 years old, I am beginning to realize I really don’t have a ton of time to tuck money away for college, so I really need to get on the ball. Lucky for me, I was asked to be an ambassador for ScholarShare, which means I’ve GOT to get my rear in gear! This can be a tad stressful when some months it’s all we can do to get by, but I believe that with determination and motivation I can at least do a little something.
ScholarShare is California’s 529 College Savings program, and it has so many great benefits. Just a few of the perks and advantages of setting your kids up for success with ScholarShare:
- Free to set up an account – you just need to make a $25 deposit to get started
- Can have an account for each of your kids
- Anyone can contribute kids’ accounts
- Tax advantages
- Automatic contributions deducted from your account, if you choose
- Investment Portfolios
- And Much More!
College is expensive, and costs only seem to be rising. We can certainly hope our kids receive scholarships, but wouldn’t you feel better knowing there is a little nest egg set aside to help with some of those costs? With four children I do not anticipate paying for all of each of my kids’ college careers. However, I want to help, and I also want to teach them the importance of saving for something important. I may even have them contribute to their own accounts!
