I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for the Florida Department of Citrus. I received promotional item to thank me for participating. Get prepared for game day with these 3 unique Florida Orange Juice recipes for pre-game and during game snacking.
It’s fall, which means college football is finally here! In my family Ohio State Football is a BIG DEAL, and the start of the season is an occasion worth celebrating!
The Florida Department of Citrus think so too, which is why they recently celebrated at a tailgate event in New York City. Sport’s broadcaster Erin Andrews was at the party sharing her top tailgating tips and an amazing recipe for a marinade made with Florida OJ (recipe below). I was so excited to hear this as Erin Andrews is a bit of a hero to me (I majored in journalism in college and love football, so she is literally living out my dream job).
To try and be like Erin, I was inspired to make a few of my own game day recipes that feature Florida Orange Juice. These simple-to-prepare recipes paired with a refreshing glass of OJ are great choices for families as an 8-ounce glass of 100% Florida OJ counts as one cup of fruit, according to the USDA MyPlate recommendations.
PREGAME:
In my family, every year we have a fairly competitive game of “team picks” going, in which we make predictions on winning teams each week. To stay “in the know” and make any last minute changes to my picks, it is crucial to watch all of the pre-game commentary. Because we live on the west coast, that means waking up at 6am ON A SATURDAY! That’s dedication! To give me a much needed wake-me-up I came up with this healthy and tasty “Orange Sunrise Smoothie”. Because it has 4 oz of Florida OJ I know that it provides vitamin C plus other essential nutrients like potassium, folate and thiamin. It’s a natural way to make sure that I have plenty of energy for all of game day!
Orange Sunrise Smoothie
1/2 cup orange juice
1 cup frozen vanilla Greek yogurt
Combine orange juice and yogurt in blender and blend on high until smooth
Makes 1 serving
TAILGATE PARTY:
I think that part of the fun of football is enjoying it together as a family. It’s so much fun to get together and talk about the game with my brothers over some yummy food! At the NYC tailgate event, Florida Orange Juice shared this awesome marinade that combines sweet and spicy for a unique and delicious flavor that makes for a great tailgate party!

GAME TIME:
When it comes to game time, I just have to have a little something to snack on! Whether it’s for stress eating over a play “in review” or enjoying a sweet treat over a sweet pass, this snack mix fits the bill! The chocolate and orange flavors compliment each other perfectly, and the cereal creates just the right kind of crunch, to much on all through the game! You
can even add a few chocolate candies of your team’s colors to make it fitting for the game!
Chocolate Orange Snack Mix
1/4 cup orange juice
1 cup milk chocolate chips
2 cups chex cereal
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1. In a small saucepan heat orange juice over medium heat. Stir continually until juice starts to boil and has reduced down by at least half.
2. Add chocolate chips and continue to stir on very low heat just until melted.
3. Remove from heat and mix in cereal immediately, making sure that all cereal is covered
4. Lay as a single layer onto wax paper and sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Toss until both sides of cereal is covered
5. Chill in fridge for at least an hour as a single layer on a cookie sheet
6. Serve in a bowl! Optional: mix in chocolate candies in your team colors!
