2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Skylanders Trap Team + Giveaway

See how I rated Skylanders Trap Team (which I received for review) and enter to win your own Skylanders Trap Team starter pack for the game system of your choice.

Skylanders Trap Team

If your kids are as big of Skylanders fans as mine are, you are probably well aware of that the latest Skylanders adventure has recently been released. This version, Skylanders Trap Team, reverses the magic by taking characters out of the digital world and brings them into the physical world by using magical traps. In this game, as players search for and defeat the most wanted villains in all of Skylands, they are able to pull them out of the game using the magical traps. Then by using new Traptanium PortalTM, players can actually send those captured villains back into the game where players can use them to fight for good, “reversing the magic”. This game also features Skylanders Minis, 16 small but powerful Skylanders that are now fully playable. They can join your team to conquer and change the games’ villains.

Skylanders Trap Team

Skylanders Trap Team is available as a starter pack that includes the video game, the Traptanium PortalTM, 2 Skylanders Figures, 2 Traps, and a few fun collector’s items including a Character Collector Poster, Sticker Sheets with Secret Codes and Trading Cards.

Gift Guide Ratings:
Poor (or Budget for it), Fair, Average, Good, Excellent

Availability: Excellent– available on Amazon, major retail stores and game stores nationwide for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and now also available for iPad, Kindle Fire and Android tablets. However the the limited edition Legendary Series which features alternative versions of new Trap Master characters and packs will only be available at Toys R Us.

Price: Budget for it: The price tag on the starter pack is $79.99. Although it comes with accessories, it is a bit pricey for a single game. I have, however, already seen a few sales online however, that bring the price down to $49.99, which is a lot more reasonable in my opinion.

Durability: Fair– My kids have been big fans of Skylanders since the beginning. While they love the new Trap Team game, they were very disappointed at how easy it was to beat the game. They beat it in 3 days, taking away a lot of the fun of having new challenges. They are able to continue to play using different characters, but don’t enjoy it as much. However, it may be more challenging for players who have not been following the Skylanders adventures as long as my kids have.

Interactive Features: Excellent– The interactive features of this game are pretty incredible! The fact that players can use the traps and to bring villains out of the game is really amazing. Another cool feature is that players can actually hear the villains who are captured inside the trap, which I think really brings the game to life. Playing this game is like bringing Skyland right into your living room.

Value For Money: Fair/ Excellent– If you are looking for something that has a lot of “wow” factor on Christmas morning, I would say this is excellent! It comes with lots of fun extras, and the interactive are sure to cause a lot of excitement. However if you are looking for a game with a lot of durability for long-term play, I would say it is only “fair”.

Who I would buy it for: This game is rated E-10+ due to cartoon violence, comic mischief. I personally would probably buy it for a Skylanders fan 8-12 years old.
