2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Switching Things Up with VTech Switch & Go Dinos

by Emily Buys 71 Comments

This holiday season, Dinosaurs are roaming the earth and you can have one right in your own living room. VTech has created a brand new member of the Switch & Go Dinos family, Turbo Bronco The RC Triceratops, which I received for review. Read all about “Turbo Bronco” and enter to win one for your own dino lover.
2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Switching Things Up with V-Tech and Go Dinos + Giveaway

If you are already familiar with Switch & Go Dinos, you know that they are fun dinos that easily transform into different vehicles. Each one features an LCD screen for a face that allows you to create a character that also changes from a Dino face to a vehicle driver. The Switch & Go Dinos also all have a unique voice that has funny phrases that allow your dino or driver come to life.

2014 Holiday Gift Guide: Switching Things Up with V-Tech and Go Dinos + Giveaway
“Turbo Bronco,” the brand new remote controllable Switch & Go Triceratops, has all of those features and more! Turbo Bronco can roam the earth (or living room) all on his own, thanks to his accompanying remote control. This remote allows users to easily transform between dino and vehicle with one press of a button. You can also move it in all directions (forwards, backwards, left and right) as a dino or as a vehicle. If Turbo Bronco is plodding along too slowly for your liking, simply pull down the “turbo lever” and then press the turbo button to turbo charge him.

I also like that if you flip over the main body of the toy there are some control features for parents including a volume control and a switch that allow you to readjust the wheel alignment. Just be sure to have some extra batteries ready, as they are not included. Other then that, Turbo a Bronco is completely assembled and ready to “switch and go” straight from the box! If your kids love dinosaurs, this toy is sure to offer hours of prehistoric fun, with a modern “switch”!

VTech Switch & Go Dinos Turbo Bronco The RC Triceratops

Gift Guide Ratings:
Poor (or Budget for it), Average, Good, Excellent

Availability: Excellent– Available in stores nationwide (including Target, Kohls, Sears, and K-Mart) and online on Amazon or from the VTech Kids website

Price: Slightly higher then Average– $44.99 from VTech Kids- The price tag on “Turbo Bronco” is quite a bit higher then the other Switch & Go Dinos, however it does so much more. When comparing it to other remote control vehicles for children in that age range it is just slightly higher then average, which I feel is fair considering it is basically two toys in one.

Durability: Good– Turbo Bronco has all of the durability that you would expect from a VTech toy. It has a good solid construction that is built to last, and take the little fender benders that are sure to happen with new RC drivers. It is also much larger then I expected it to be (probably around 3x larger then the other switch and go dinos) which I think will add to its durability.

Educational Features: Excellent– Turbo Bronco is a fun way for your little one to learn about dinosaurs, because it says actual dinosaur facts as part of the 70+ sounds and phrases that it makes. It also gives your child the opportunity to understand about movement and direction as they learn how to maneuver the car and dinosaur using the remote control.

Interactive Features: Good- Children can interact with the Turbo Bronco by using the remote control to maneuver it, transform it, and turbo charge it.

Value For Money: Excellent– While the price tag on this toy is higher then a typical RC car made for this age range, it does so much more. You get all of the features of a RC car plus all of the features of a regular switch and go dino all rolled into one. With this item being available in so many stores nationwide, I would also keep an eye on this item in the sale ads this holiday season.

Who I would buy it for: I think that this toy would be ideal for a dino or car lover around age 5. This item is labeled for children ages 3-8, however I think that the remote control buttons would be a little complicated for 3-4 year olds. However with some parent assistance this could be a really fun toy for a younger child also.

Be sure to stay tuned in to the Holiday Gift Guide all season long for more gift ideas, hands-on reviews and giveaway items to gift to your own family and friends.
