This fall, I had the opportunity to treat my oldest son to a very special mommy/son date to Florida. My big boy hadn’t been on an airplane since he was a baby, let alone cross country. We had also never taken a vacation of any sort together. I recall a time when my ex-husband and I took our oldest on a movie and dinner date, but that’s about it. I feel that my kids on an individual level, just do not get enough one-on-one time. With our very difficult year, full of huge changes, I figured it was the perfect time to take my oldest to Universal Studios and Disney World. We began our visit with the perfect accommodations at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort – a Universal Studios hotel.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is quite affordable, with rooms starting at $79 a night. These are not your ordinary rooms either. I am in love with the bright colors and many shapes. The room and retro feel kind of reminded me of The Jetsons. Flash back in time right there. Our room was complete with a small kitchen, common room, bedroom with 2 queen beds, and a bathroom. I loved the bathroom because everything was separate. The shower, vanity and toilet are all separate so different people can utilize them at the same time. Most hotels do not have that feature, and I think that makes for easy “getting ready” when traveling with a group of people. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable, and those are two things I am very picky about.
My boy and I had time to peruse the hotel and check out the lobby, and different eating areas. There is a cafeteria style area with a variety of foods. I believe there was even bowling somewhere in the hotel!! If only we were staying longer. The attention to detail, and many fun areas for the kids was just so cool.
Dare I get into the outdoors of the Cabana Bay Beach Resort? we got to see the pool, volleyball pits, outdoor movie night, and everything right from our room. We definitely took the time for a dip in the pool one evening. Each evening, there was a movie to be watched out in the grassy area, which we thought was very cool. I opted to just lounge in the pool, but big boy loved the slides. We were told the pool on the other side of the hotel had a lazy river!
Seriously – Universal Studios goers, you cannot go wrong with a stay at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The hotel offers a free shuttle for pick-up and drop-off at the Universal City Walk. Can’t beat that!
