As the summer heat fades in the distance, and the cool fall temperature delightfully takes its place, it is a wonderful time to take some careful prepping for the home; right before the cold front decides it’s their turn to come out to play. While I love the relief from the hot summer days, for people like myself the fall can also be a dangerous battle zone with allergens lurking around each and every corner.
I have a friend who lives in Bakersfield, and we often discuss the air quality and what it does to his allergies. I thought I’d share some of his experiences. According to the State of the Air report, Bakersfield, CA is one of the most polluted U.S. cities and it has not always been the best for my friend’s allergies, so he has to make sure to have an inhaler everywhere he goes. To ensure wellbeing he keeps an inhaler in the car, dresser, lunch pail (unfortunately it is not a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or Dick Tracy Lunch box), and at work. The worst part is waking up in the middle of the night, ruining any chance of getting a good night’s rest, just because of his breathing difficulties. Since he has to commute an hour to work each day, sleep is much appreciated, and needed. As one of his high school football coaches said it best, “ A good defense is the best offense.”
To take precautions to help ensure a good night’s rest, and a healthy day, here are a few steps to take when it comes to defense in the home, and to help reduce any anxiety one with allergies might encounter.
- Encasing the mattress and pillows in the bedroom.
- Vacuuming the house periodically, to keep those dust bunnies at bay.
- Using a Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduction Filter (MPR 1500)
Now you might ask, “Why not any other filter?” For me the answer is simple. We breathe in air every day to survive. Why not try to improve that air? With all of the pollution around, our home is our safe haven, and we deserve good air quality. The Filtrete Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduction Filter can capture 90% of the large airborne particles from the air passing through the filter. Plus, it also attracts and captures the microscopic particles that can carry bacteria. With all of those allergens out there, I need all the help I can get. Now that I’m armed and ready for defense, “Bring it on fall and Winter”!
