This past month, I had the opportunity to get in good with the in-laws and send them on a weekend getaway to the California coast. I was supposed to go myself, but came down with a nasty nasty cold the day I was supposed to head out. Luckily they were up for a last minute trip to stay at the beautiful Little River Inn, in Mendocino. Here is what they had to say about their visit:
We had the opportunity to spend the weekend at the Little River Inn on the Mendocino Coast. When we arrived, it was after dark and we were tired of traveling. We had to wait until morning to get a good look at the property, and when we did, we were in awe. In the mornings, the views from our room and balcony were unparalleled. We could see the coastline through the redwood trees on the grounds. It was just gorgeous!
Upon checking in, we discovered how hungry we were from all of the traveling. The desk clerk told us about their restaurant. Even though we made our visit after Christmas, the restaurant was still festively decorated for the holidays. It made the restaurant feel very warm and inviting. The menu at Little River Inn has a great selection of seafood and steak meals. The soup and salads were very good as well. All in all, the food was great.
After dinner we checked into our room and were pleasantly surprised. The room was spacious and very comfortable. As if the property didn’t boast enough beauty, the Inn had a nine hole golf course nestled among the redwoods. It’s a beautiful setting where we enjoyed the driving range and tennis court.
Something worth mentioning here is that the Little River Inn is very family friendly AND pet friendly! Each room has two beds, and has the option for a crib and/or extra rollaway beds. The restaurant claims to have a very tasty kids’ menu too. For added fun, the Little River Inn loves events. In addition to the fabulous happenings for grown ups (including the Crab, Wine & Beer Festival in January and the Mushroom & Beer Dinner in November), they have created annual traditions for the younger set as well, including:
- Bunny Camp for kids, the Saturday before Easter
- The Gnome & Fairy Parade at Mushroom Festival Time
- Party for the Planet in April
- Family Fun Day at the start of summer
- Amazing lights and decorations at the holidays
If you want to head off of the property when staying at the Little River Inn, there are some great options. Just up highway 1 is an awesome walking beach and the quaint town of Mendocino. It had great gift shopping and beautiful coastal views. The Little River Inn is truly a relaxing getaway. Get away with a loved one, the family, or just you and your favorite pet – It is a great place to stay anytime you are headed to the California coast!
