It’s the end of a long day. Dinner is done, and the only thing standing between you and bedtime is the bathtime routine. Easy right? In theory, yes. But the truth of the matter is, that a lot can happen in that bathroom during bath time. Between flooded floors, emptied shampoo bottles and dripping bath toys on the counter, bath-time can end up being anything but a “clean” getaway.
Out of slight desperation, I have been working on cleaning-up our bath time routine, so that I can spend less time mopping up soggy floors and more time enjoying the evening with my kiddos. Here are 5 of my best tricks to help make things go a little cleaner at bath time!
1. Bath Toy Colander
Bath toys are the best, but what do you do with your family of wet duckies when bath time is through? I got a cheap kitchen colander, or plastic basket with holes in it to use as a container to keep bath toys in. I leave it in the bathtub (which makes for a fun bath toy itself) and when bath time is done, the kids can throw all the toys in there and let them drip-dry right there in the tub.
2. Shampoo Soap Dispenser
I know (or at least hope) that we are not the only ones who have lost an entire bottle of shampoo, conditioner or body wash to kids in the bath. Why must they make those bottle so much fun to squeeze and play with. I recently solved this problem by reusing empty hand soap dispensers and filling them with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. This gives the kids a metered amount to use and makes it way more difficult for them to squeeze out an entire bottle into their bath.
3. PJ Cubbies
This little trick is great for keeping dripping, towel-clad little bodies from running around the house looking for pajamas. I got a stackable plastic container for each of my kids and put them on the bathroom counter. In the morning, as soon as they change out of their pajamas, they put them in their own cubby so that they are right where they need to be, when bath-time is done.
4. Firefly “Ready Go Brush”
At the end of the bathtime routine, getting kids to brush can be a bit of a chore. Getting them to brush properly and long enough can be an even bigger “pain in the brush”. I recently let my kids try out the new Firefly “Ready Go Brush” toothbrushes and this completely solved this problem. These cool toothbrushes come in some of my kids’ favorite designs including Angry Birds, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, and Marvel. The truly unique feature about them, however is that they have sounds and lights that last for the entire time your kids should be brushing.
My kids absolutely loved them! They enjoyed brushing for the full 60 seconds that the toothbrush was lit up, without any complaining or trying to finish early, making it an easy way to ensure that their teeth are properly cleaned.
5. Mouthwash dispenser
I have to admit, I am not always the best about making sure the kids use mouthwash. The process of finding a little cup for them to use, making sure they have taken the right amount, and then getting them to use it, can be a little daunting at the end of bathtime. However I just found the Firefly Fun Pump mouth rinse which helps with this. This mouth wash has a cool pump, so that kids can easily get their own mouthwash without spilling it all over the place. It also comes with a no-mess cup that fits conveniently under the dispenser, making the entire process fast and easy.
