Discover Home Away from Home for Family Vacations

Family travel via airplanes

As my family has grown, I have found there are some ways to travel that are better than others. Allow me to explain how I discover home away from home for family vacations through VRBO, which is part of the HomeAway family. I am proud to be partnering with HomeAway to spread awareness about their services which I already use.

I used to REALLY travel on a budget and wouldn’t even splurge for a hotel room that would sleep everyone in an actual bed. We would make up beds on the floor if we had to, push chairs together to create a bed, or cram three kids to a double bed. Anyone with multiple children can understand the need to budget, but also the necessity of avoiding fights – especially while on vacation. What is vacation with bickering children? “I get the bed.” “No, I do” etc. etc. So, I now travel where everyone has a bed to sleep on, to help ensure a good night’s rest, and less grumpy children (and mommy).

Fun in the snow

In addition to ample bed supply, there are some other amenities that I find quite useful, especially while on longer vacations. There is something to be said for a home away from home atmosphere when traveling with kids. A kitchen to cook in and laundry facilities to wash clothes before heading home (or in case outfits get dirty before the day is done). Or what about a fireplace after a day in the snow? That’s why I love booking rentals through VRBO! You can find just about anything!

Let’s face it, there some vacations where you need home to call yours during the day. One of our favorites are beach vacations. We like to be able to wake up, cook breakfast and walk to the beach, as if we are locals. Then after spending a few hours of fun in the sun, and sand between the toes, we are so ready to take a nice shower, run a load of laundry and relax on the porch as we watch the sunset. Or even curl up on the couch and watch a movie, after an exhausting, but fun day at the beach.

I can’t afford to live near the beach, but with HomeAway.com and VRBO, I am able to treat my family like we do for a time. When we travel to the snow, there is nothing like being able to walk right in from the snow, and park it by the fire to warm up. When I am traveling with my kiddos, it is way easier, and honestly, more affordable because we aren’t eating out as much, to have a home we can call ours. HomeAway vacation rentals are perfect for families and groups. From condos to castles, there is something for everyone and every budget. A castle is next on my list (maybe some day).

HomeAway has taken a survey relating to how children play a role in vacation planning. Find out what kids want right here! Are their needs at the forefront of your mind when you plan for family travel?
