Have you ever had a little personal drama happen while trying to figure out what to wear on a date night with the hubby? If so you will probably be able to relate to my funny inner- monologue on getting ready for a recent date night! Last Saturday night my hubby and I were invited by one of his colleagues to attend a local benefit dinner. Now, to some of you this may sound fairly boring, but life has been fairly hectic around my house for the past few weeks and “date nights” have been few and far between! So this chance to get out and spend the night with my hubby had me fairly excited! I wanted to dress up a little and make a special effort for the night. Here is a funny “behind the scenes” look at me getting ready for our night out!
5:30 pm- House cleaned? Check! Pizzas ready for the kids? Check! PJs laid out for my 3 yr old? Check! Bribing the kids with popcorn to be good for the babysitter? Check and double check! All that’s left to be done is for me to get myself ready and surprise my hubby that I am actually ready to walk out of the house by 6 pm (as promised).
5:35 pm- Pulled my favorite dress out of the dryer. I was so prepared getting it washed and dried ready to go tonight… That was an all day project! GO ME! Now just giving it a quick once over with the iron, and I am good to go!
5:40 pm- Dress is on! Looking it over in the mirror, and I look pretty good (if I do say so myself)! Now just hair, make-up and I’m ready to go! Am I seriously going to be ready on time? Wow! Hubby is going to fall in love with me all over again for that! Does my breath smell ok? (Breathing into my hand). Not too bad. I’ll grab a mint on the way out.
5:43 pm- Foundation on, bronzer on, and now for eyes. Are “smokey eyes” still in? Am I too old for a little eye-liner? Just keep it simple babe, if you go crazy you’ll end up doing something wrong and being sorry. Ok… Light eye shadow done, and just a little mascara…. aaaaaaaa-choooooooo (earth-shattering colossal sneeze while holding an open mascara brush= collateral damage).
5:44 pm- OH MY GOODNESS! Did I seriously just make a giant mascara mark on my favorite dress? YES! YES I DID! (Panic mode setting in)
5:45 pm- Breathe! Just breathe! Go grab the stain removing spray. (Applying it) It’s SMEARING! The small dot is now a giant smudge! We are now in red alert mode!
5:47 pm- Grab a cardigan! Will that cover it? (IN A SHRILL VOICE) Hubby… Does this cardigan cover the stain? (no response, but that “worried/ think of a clever response fast” look in his eye tells me “NO”).
5:48 pm- (tearing through my closet like tornado) What else can I wear? I HAVE NO CLOTHES! (Flopping down on my bed dramatically) Literally NO CLOTHES! I’M JUST NOT GOING!
5:50 pm- Is that the doorbell? Oh my goodness! The babysitter must be here already? And I STILL have nothing to wear. Ok ok ok, pull yourself together! I have this dress. Too dressy. Or this skirt… Not dressy enough. This would be perfect…. IF it still fit. Grrrrr! Going on a diet on MONDAY! What! What about that skirt hiding way at the back of the closet. Yes, yes that one! Maybe if I pair this skirt with this top over here. Yes! That might just work! It’s super wrinkled. I have 10 minutes to iron it AND do my hair. This is going to get a little creative, but let’s do this!
5:52 pm- (while plugging in the iron) This would not be happening to me right now if I had a SWASH clothing care system. I knew I needed one the minute I saw that video about it online! 6:00 pm- still ironing
6:05 pm- STILL ironing
6:07 pm- Finally done ironing. It’s still kind of wrinkled, but it’s going to have to do. That took WAY longer then I wanted. I’ll just throw my hair up in an easy up-do and call it good at this point.
6:15 pm- Ok, I’m ready to go! It’s not the glamorous look I had envisioned but at this point, I’m just thankful to be wearing clothes! Note to self:
Look more into the SWASH system so we don’t have this kind of disaster again! I really hope they have some kind of yummy dessert at this thing, after all of this work to get ready! Love you kids…. A few words or wisdom to the babysitter… Just gotta grab my purse… Ok, I’m ready to go!
