When families visit the Orlando area they often pack their time with theme park visits. I am here to tell you that Florida has so much more to offer, but one of my very favorite spots is Wild Florida. Aside from the fact that the staff is incredible, and they treated my whole family to an amazing day, I want to tell you want I think Wild Florida is the perfect Florida family destination.
When I first arranged our visit to Wild Florida, I was mainly eager to have the kids experience their first airboat ride. Little did I know, Wild Florida is practically a full-on zoo! The WildLife Park is truly spectacular. They have done such a great job of making the park family-friendly, all while preserving some of Florida’s natural history.
Wild Florida has grown so much over the last few years, and they continue to acquire new animals. From sloths to chameleons, to alligators and lemurs, Wild Florida WildLife Park really has a wide variety. They also have scheduled shows and hands-on experiences, as well as a petting zoo. This is a great way to get up and close with the animals.
You can even stand in for your own photo opp with an alligator. Guests have the opportunity to hold an actual gator and have their photo taken. Proceeds from purchased photos go to a local charity, which is just another reason to like Wild Florida.
If you haven’t ever been on an airboat ride then I highly recommend it. This is a boat that is run by air, with no engine. Because the fan blows so loud, headphones are provided for everyone while you zip through the everglades. It’s so fun to feel the air across your face while spotting wildlife such as bald eagles, alligators and even the local cattle. Beautiful sites and truly a neat experience. Just when you think the water must be too low, and you are surely going to just run into a bunch of reeds and growth, the airboat surprises you with a smooth sailing ride right through it all.
So much to do at Wild Florida, and truly a great place to experience the nature Florida has to offer, as well as a fun hands-on wildlife activity. The on-site chef is also pretty incredible so be sure to stop by the cafe and order up gator bites, pulled pork and what have you. It was all delish!
