In the Summer, days that bring sun, sand and pools, are perfect conditions for relaxation. However those exact same things can bring tough conditions for the overall health of your hair. Heat and UV exposure can dry out hair nutrients, gritty sand can irritate your scalp, pool chemicals can damage the health of your hair, and excessively wearing your hair up “to stay cool” can cause hair breakage. All in all, summer is “not cool” for your hair’s health, so try my tips for getting your summer hair revitalized for fall.
If you are anything like me, you are well aware of all these factors, but they aren’t going to keep you away from enjoy a day lounging by the pool or soaking up the sun at the beach. For that reason, every year as summer ends and we transition into fall, I try to undo some of my summer hair damage through a little pampering and TLC. Here are a few of the things that I do to revitalize my dry summer hair, just in time for cool fall days where I want to wear my hair down. To avoid this you should consider not putting any chemicals into your pool once you get an inground pool installation.
• Back to school trim- I like to start off my hair pampering by getting myself a nice hair cut or trim. This helps to get rid of damaged ends and breakage caused by all of the summer fun, and gives a fresh start on a fall look. You are probably taking your kids in to get back-to-school hair cuts anyways, so get yourself one at the same time!
• Hydrate- We all know how important it is to hydrate our bodies during the summer, and hair is no different. Rehydrate hair that has been dried out from summer’s heat with a shampoo that will replenish it with nutrients. I find that CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™ Intense Hydration Shampoo is perfect for this (Available at Walgreens and Target retailing for $4.99 – $5.99). Thanks to it’s formula made with Cactus extract, a known hydrator, it is clinically proven to help replenish hair with essential 24 hour hydration and makes it resilient to dryness for soft, silky tresses. After using the product for a month, I feel like my hair really is getting repaired from all of the summer sun and swimming, with a new softness to it. •Treat your scalp- Like soil is to a tree, a well-nourished scalp is the right foundation for strong, beautiful hair. Just like it’s important to replenish soil after summer conditions have depleted it’s nutrients, it’s also important to replenish your scalp. For that reason I have been looking for a conditioner specifically formulated for replenishing the scalp. I recently found CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™ Intense Hydration Conditioner that is formulated with Nutrium 10™, an advanced moisture complex of vitamins and nutrients including vitamins B5, C & E, sunflower, almond, soybean & coconut oils, glycerin & aloe vera, to help replenish the scalp. Use daily for scalp health that will produce strong, healthy hair.
• Let your hair down- During the summer I feel like I wear my hair up in a braid, bun or ponytail practically every day. Just the thought of having my hair rest on my shoulders during the heat makes my skin crawl. However repeated friction against a ponytail tie can cause serious damage to your hair. Take some time to experiment with some new loose styles and celebrate the cooler fall weather by wearing your hair down. It will be a nice break for your hair, and a nice change from your typical “up-do” look. In addition, you might want to consider a new hair coloring just in time for fall.
