I am so over the heat. I’m not sure if this has been a record breaking hot summer, but it sure has felt like it. I can’t remember a summer where we have had so many days in the triple digits. I have been racking my brain for dinner ideas that won’t heat up the house, and I have shared some of those ideas with you. However, I have yet to share any toaster oven recipes. Because I just received the new Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster to try, I have no excuses. With ingredients I usually have on hand, I came up with a totally simple snack/appetizer/entree: Toasted Ham and Apple Open-Faced Sandwiches.
Panasonic is a believer in helping us not heat up the house with our cooking, and wants to help you get rid of the age-old saying “can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen”, with the Panasonic FlashXpress Toaster Oven. For starters, this is one stylish Toaster Oven, and it goes perfectly with my kitchen. I have a very modern looking kitchen with white cabinets, gray, white and black granite countertops, a metal and glass backsplash, and stainless steel appliances. This stainless steel toaster oven fits right in.
I’ve not been a big toaster oven chef, due to lack of experience and supplies. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get the hang of this, but hubby assured me it was easy peasy, and would make my life so much easier. He was so right! You can do so much with the Panasonic FlashXPress Toaster Oven. You can make everything you would make in an ordinary toaster, but it also has features of a microwave and oven. It’s a great place to defrost items, reheat food (our favorite – and it tastes better than reheating in a microwave), and even bake cookies! You can set the toaster oven to the same temperature as an oven, for most recipes.
To keep things simple with back-to-school, I created an after-school snack (or meal) using leftover French bread, apple slices, deli ham and whatever cheese I have on hand (shredded mozzarella in this case). So yummy and it covers a lot of the food groups.
