I have a confession to make. Last year, my son’s school did a really fun game to get the kids to participate in bringing in Box Tops for Education. My son loves participating in things like that, and I love helping out all of the amazing teachers at his school. Because schools earn $.10 for every box top received, which they can use to buy whatever they need, saving (and turning in) Box Tops for Education is a great way to support the schools!
So I diligently cut and saved every box top from some of our favorite General Mills products, and started stashing them away in the kitchen “junk drawer”. The only problem was that once they entered the junk drawer, they NEVER CAME BACK OUT AGAIN (que mysterious music).
Now it’s a new school year, with a new teacher who doesn’t know about my box top misdeeds! I still have a junk drawer full of box tops, and a new chance to prove myself as an organized mom who cares about the school and her child’s education.
I have the “caring” part down (my child’s education really is a priority to me). But I needed to put in a little work to get the organized part down. So I got to work!
I started by creating an organizer to get the Box Tops out of my junk drawer and some place visible that would remind me to save and turn them in. No more “out of sight, out of mind” excuse!
I took a used mint container with a flip top lid. I removed the wrapping and loosened the entire lid with a knife, (making it easier to open so I could empty it when it’s successfully filled with box tops). I then recovered it in a piece of scrapbook paper cut 5 X 3 inches and attached it with hot glue around the container. I added a magnet to the back (so I can put it on the fridge) and stuck a box top on the front, as an extra reminder to fill it!
Now I have an easy (and kind of fun) way to store my box tops. I’ll admit part of me kind of loves dropping them into the little hole in the top of it! It’s the little things in life that get me going! When the organizer is full, I’ll simply empty it into a plastic lunch baggie and put it someplace that my son will remember to take it in! Bam! Organized mom status achieved! Well… for Box Tops, at least!
Don’t forget to shop at Walmart and look for General MillsĀ® items with the double Box Tops!
