If you follow me on Instagram then you know I spent the beginning of December in beautiful Hawaii! This was a trip I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl. Visiting the island of Oahu with my husband, kids and parents was simply amazing. Aside from the beautiful beaches and tasty eats, I’m going to share a couple of stories with activities I recommend trying while visiting Oahu. Upon returning home from Hawaii, I asked my kids what their favorite activities were and at least two of them listed ATV riding through Kualoa Ranch.
Kualoa Ranch is filled with 4000 acres of nature reserve, but is also a working cattle ranch. Kualoa is also a film site for many popular movies, such as Jurassic World, 50 First Dates, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla and many more.
My entire crew took a two hour ATV ride through the lush reserve, just before dusk. Three of the adults rode their own ATV, while grandpa drove the raptor full of kids. My boys think they are tough and wanted to ride an ATV, but they were too young, and they found the raptor to be full of enough exhilaration.
We stopped at movie sites and took plenty of photos, but riding through the rugged terrain was loads of fun! I’m sure there were plenty of squeals (I won’t say from who). My mom was pretty nervous to start, as we drove through some steep and rocky terrain, but it didn’t take long to realize the ATVs could handle quite a bit without jostling us too much.
Keith did quite enjoy splashing through the water when the opportunity arose, just to get a kick out of getting me wet. A big highlight for the kids was reaching the set for the Gyrosphere – a ride in the Jurrasic World movie. Kualoa Ranch kept the set, just for kicks.
All along the way, the views are spectacular. Ocean, greenery, mountains and more! Along our ride, we saw a lot of smoke and loud noises, which we quickly learned was all due to the filming of a new movie to come out! That’s right, there is a new King Kong with Samuel L Jackson coming out!
Okay, so I’d say Kualoa Ranch is a must-see/do attraction if you are ever on the island of O’ahu! Loads of fun to be had! Whether you do ATV rides, horseback riding or other tours – you’ll love it!
