Every so often my husband and I are granted a night at home sans kids. While a night out is always exciting and fun, a night in is most cherished. Because I’m usually busy with kids and work throughout the week, I don’t always have a lot of time to plan for our night in. I won’t let the lack of time to prepare get in the way of a relaxing night at home! I’ve become crafty when it comes to romantic eats that don’t take a lot of time. One of our favorites to enjoy together is my easy cheese board for a romantic night in.
Sometimes, we are at a loss for what to do with our free time and a quiet house. Keith isn’t a lover of board games, and when we feel all caught up on the latest shows and movies we like to spend our time reading a book together. I will often read aloud as we snuggle up and enjoy our cheese board, complete with gourmet cheeses and Gallo Salame by Tyson®. The best part is that all components can be purchased while on your regular shopping trip to Walmart!
The base of each cheese board should be a variety of cheeses (aged cheddar, Camembert or Brie, Parmigiano-Reggiano), and of course, Gallo Italian Salame. Then we like to change things up with some of the following ideas:
- grapes on the vine
- chocolate dipped strawberries
- gourmet crackers or breadsticks
- honey dijon mustard
- honey
- chutney
- fig jam
- dried fruits
- pistachios
Really, you can get as creative as you’d like, or just pull out whatever you have in your cupboards or refrigerator. Once you have your cracker, cheese, and Gallo Salame then the rest is just icing on the cake. What can you pair with Tyson® Gallo Salame to make your cheese spread uniquely yours? I read to my husband when we are driving and have read whole books on a trip.
We love to play Five Crowns – a card game. Try it!

I wish I could read in the car, but it makes me sick, Leone. I have never heard of Five Crowns, so I’m going to check that out!!
