A few years ago, when my youngest was still a baby, a friend of mine invited me out to a last-minute girls night. I really wanted to go, and have a fun time socializing with other moms, but I quickly declined. The reason? It had been a long day (week), I couldn’t remember the last time I had showered, my hair was a mess, my shirt had spit-up (or some other unmentionable bodily fluid) on it, and I just didn’t feel cute. I still remember what a horrible feeling that was, knowing that I wanted to go, but letting my own insecurities about my appearance hold me back. I don’t ever want you to feel like this so I want to show you a few quick ways to feel beautiful when you’re a mom.
I decided that in the future if there was someplace that I wanted to go out, I should never let how I’m feeling about my appearance stop me. As I did, more last minutes invitations were extended and of-course many (most) of them happened to be on days when I felt like a total disaster. However, I found a few quick tricks to “spruce myself up” in only a few minutes, leaving me feeling confident, beautiful and ready to enjoy a night out with the girls!
1. Rock Your Legs- Nothing makes you feel less like a hairy ogre and more like a real woman again then having soft, smooth legs. Take a few minutes to shave your legs as you are preparing for a night out. Then you have the option to wear a skirt (which always makes me feel more dolled up), but even if you don’t, just knowing that your legs feel amazing under those mom pants, gives you a confidence boost!
I like to have Schick Hydro® Silk razors on hand for just such an instance because they make for a quick and easy shave that is effective and feels great. I also like to have Skintimate® shave gel at the ready so that I can get a nice smooth shave even when I don’t have time to jump in the shower.
It smells great too, which is a nice bonus when you are trying to shake off some of the unwanted “surprises” that a day of mom-ing might bring. Now is a great time to stock up on these products at Safeway, because right now you can get one FREE movie ticket with the purchase of $10 or more of participating Schick Women’s Razors and Skintimate® women’s shaving products. (*Value up to $10). Perfect for girls night out!
2. All Eyes on Me- If you find that you just don’t have time to do your whole makeup routine, but want to add some glam, spend just a few minutes on your eyes. Throw on some eye shadow and a couple layers of mascara and you will be amazed at just how much better you feel about your look. It will draw attention to your eyes and away from any of the other areas that you didn’t have time to make-over, but more importantly it is a quick, yet bold way to make you feel glamorous about yourself.
3. Accessorize- I always find that accessorizing is such a quick way to feel “put together” without having to do much. I like to have a few inexpensive, clever accessories that go with everything for just such an occasion. Or I like to add a fun scarf during colder months (which also hides a multitude of stains). With just a few simple accessories, I can go from feeling completely blah about my outfit to feeling polished and well put together in minutes.
Next time your friends invite you to a spontaneous girls night, don’t let the dinginess of the day drag you down, spend just a few minutes to feel beautiful again and enjoy a well deserved night out! You will return home happier and more confident because of it!
