Navigating through adulthood can be quite challenging, and for me, that was pretty much the sum of my 20s. Avon Mompreneur, Emily Seagren, knows a little something about life getting derailed, and how living the Boss Life can really keep you above water when you feel like everything around you is collapsing. I can so relate to this, and I’m sure many of you have found yourself in a similar boat at some point in your life. Perhaps you haven’t been able to live the Boss Life, but we’re going to share some tips should you ever decide to make the switch.
I took on an extremely difficult marriage, and it took it’s toll on me. Fortunately I am past that now, and remarried to a wonderful man. One aspect I’ve never really discussed pertaining to my divorce, is what empowered me to go through with it. My plan was always to be a stay-at-home mom. That doesn’t exactly fit with being a single mom, which is why it took me so long to end my very trying marriage. Then I started this blog and became my own boss, where I could work from home and pick my own hours. Running my own business and being able to provide for my kids on my own empowered me to get rid of the toxicity and live in peace without the former husband.
Emily Seagren didn’t go through a divorce and being a single mother like I did, but she’s had her own battles. She had to close two storefront businesses in the midst of being diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was causing a lot of headaches. She too was a wife and mom of 2. This is when Emily turned to online selling for her Avon business. She had the freedom of working from home when she felt well enough, but it was her Avon business that provided for her family as she tried to put the pieces of their life back together.
Emily came up with the idea of Makeup Marketing Online, a brand she used to promote Avon through selling, recruiting, and teaching other Avon reps how to be successful. In 2015, Emily was awarded the prestigious Avon Woman of Enterprise honor. This woman is a powerhouse! She’s now turned to social media (like me) to help change the lives of others. I think when we as women, mothers, and wives, overcome huge obstacles and have found something that helps us do that, it’s important to share with one another. We so often feel alone and trapped, but there is always a way out! Emily will personally sell over $200,000 worth of Avon products this year, which is absolutely incredible.
If you’re dreaming of the Boss Life, I can tell you from personal experience that there is definitely a lot of freedom in it. Sure, running your own business can be stressful, but I’ve found the rewards to outweigh the challenges. To get you started, here are five need-to-know life hacks for at home bosses:
- Learn to work with – not fight – your kids’ rhythms.
- Build margin into your work life. Work should NOT be 24/7.
- Have fun with your work. Happy hours, company outings, and lunch meetings shouldn’t end just because you’re working at home.
- Organize a business that fits your life, not the other way around. Find your most productive hours and protect them. Traditional 9-5 can go by the wayside.
- Incorporate variety. Work in different rooms and settings – parks, coffee shops, kitchen, front porch, etc. Surround yourself with space that gives you creativity and peace.
