I used to have a framed sign hanging in my home that said, “Who are these children and why are they calling me mom?” Adulting can be hard at times. I recall those days when I came home from school to a clean house, folded laundry, fresh baked cookies and dinner in the oven (don’t mistake that I didn’t do my fair share of cleaning, folding and cooking). Then I turned 18 and was away at college. My older sister once said to me when I was about to fly the coop, “You’re going to miss the stuff from home – like good hair products and nice food.” But one thing I don’t miss now that I’m a mom is the mop bucket, dirty dust cloths and brooms with debris stuck at the bottom. The days of those “old school” cleaning implements are gone, gone, gone. I’ve discovered adulting and cleaning made easy with Swiffer, and I’ve even converted my mom.
Just like I turned 18 a few years back and celebrated adulthood, Swiffer turned 18 this year! Swiffer swept the nation by storm in 1999 and now, this year the brand is celebrating its 18th birthday. Yes, adulting is hard, but Swiffer makes it easy. There’s no reason to make those adulting moments as hard as they used to be. Lifestyles have changed from when I was a kid, and with Swiffer, you can live in a clean house without spending your life cleaning it.
I’m grateful to my mom for creating an inviting home environment. She chose to be a stay-at-home mom while her kids were growing up and it was her mission to create the kind of home we were eager to come home to. I’m a stay-at-home mom too, but I work from my home. I don’t have the time to haul out a mop and bucket, find the broom and dust pan, or find the appropriate dust cloth to clean surfaces. Instead, I whip out my Swiffer WetJet, snap on the floor cleaner for either wood floors or multi-purpose and I’m done in just a few minutes and the cleaning pad goes in the trash. If the pad isn’t too worn then I keep it around for more uses.
For quick clean-up after meals or tracked in dust and dirt, I use the Swiffer Sweeper and it collects an amazing amount of dirt, dust and dog hair that the traditional broom misses. Then the pad either gets reused or goes in the trash.
Dusting – I don’t even have to get my hands on the nasty dust cloth, instead I use my Swiffer Duster and it gets it ALL – including hard to reach spots (and don’t mistake that my kiddos don’t know how to use Swiffer, as well). Swiffer is a time saver for today’s busy lifestyle. Not only does it save time, but it’s kinder to the environment and fights those nasty germs. Swiffer products trap and lock the dust and germs inside – which is exactly what my very allergy-prone body needs. See, cleaning made easy!
We all must embrace adulthood at some point and I am glad Swiffer is there to help with the transition. It’s never too late to change old habits and embrace innovation. I was gratified to see cobwebs on my mom’s old mop bucket in the garage. She’s reinventing herself and embracing Swiffer. Now for those fresh baked cookies in the oven – no problem, but dinner in the oven, that’s another topic!
I’d love to hear some of the ways you’re embracing adulthood and some of the old tried and true ways you’ve discarded for a better way. Happy 18th Birthday, Swiffer!
