One of the earliest movies I can remember watching is Bambi. Bambi is such a Disney classic that everyone has seen, and has helped to shape their love for all things Disney. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Bambi’s release, and as such I got to interview the original voices of Bambi and Thumper (found here). Tomorrow, we all get to enjoy the Anniversary Edition and Blu-ray release tomorrow! The DVD/Blu-ray combo pack comes with fun bonus features, and I also have some Bambi printables to share. Your family is in for a treat!
Before you get to your movie watching, check out these activities the kids can do while they watch. Learn how to make “My First Garden” with Bambi.
Be sure to also check out the Backyard Camp-Out with Bambi! These are perfect summer activities, and go along nicely with the movie. Find even more activities on the Disney website!
Some of the bonus features you can expect to find on The Walt Disney Signature Collection release of Bambi:
- A “lithograph” celebrating the life of original artist, Tyrus Wong. This is a small sturdy card with concept art of Bambi and Thumper’s first meeting.
- Oswald the Lucky Rabbit: “Africa Before Dark”
- Inside Walt’s Story Meetings: Extended Edition
- Deleted Scenes: Bambi’s Ice and Snow (4:27) – This alternate version of Bambi discovering snow was replaced with the iconic skating sequence. The Grasshopper (2:57) – A grasshopper character was developed for the film, but cut out to simplify it. This deleted scene offers Bambi’s introduction to the cantankerous bug.
- Studio Stories: Bambi – Archival recordings from 1956 of Walt Disney and behind-the-scenes footage.
- The Bambi Effect – Early Disney animation
- Bambi Fawn Facts – A lesson on the animals featured in the film, including a dubstep remix of Bambi’s score.
When I was a kid, I couldn’t get past the death of Bambi’s mother, so it’s been fun to rewatch as an adult and appreciate the depths it has to offer. This definitely makes for a fun family night this summer, so pick up the Bambi Anniversary Edition today!
I was provided an all expense paid trip for the purpose of covering the new Pirates of the Caribbean and Bambi releases. All opinions expressed are my own.
