Lately I have been thinking a lot about trying to do a better job of lifting and caring for others. This week I had a fun opportunity to do just that while working on a sponsored post for the Safeway Stock Up Sale. This has inspired me with tips to boo your neighbors, which is a fun way to treat friends and neighbors for the Halloween season.
It feels like lately the world has become such a crazy and scary place, and it’s been weighing a lot on my heart and mind. I decided that while I may not be able to change that on a big-scale, I can do things to brighten and uplift those around me, and what better place to start than my very own neighborhood.
A few days ago I headed to Safeway to grab a few of our family’s essentials during their Stock Up Sale. Shopping at Safeway during the Stock Up Sale means I can get all my favorite staples from General Mills, Coca-Cola, Kraft and Nabisco at a great value. They have so many great deals, including big discounts and buy-one-get-one deals that it’s always a good time for me to restock my pantry with our everyday favorites. You can even download your local store’s app for more savings! I got a great deal on the Ritz Crackers that my kids love for an after school snack, Honey Nut Cheerios™ for quick week-day breakfasts, and even Old El Paso™ Shells for dinner!
When I saw how much I saved, I realized that I had a little extra in my budget that I was able to get some fun stuff with, and that’s when inspiration hit! I decided to grab some fun items to “boo” my neighbors with. I have seen this idea go around Pinterest a few times, and have always wanted to do it, but never have. The basic idea is you put together a gift bag full of fun goodies for neighbors. You then leave it on their doorstep anonymously with a cute note telling them that they have been “boo-ed” and encouraging them to do the same to other neighbors. With a little luck and holiday spirit, the “boo-ing” will make it through the whole neighborhood, spreading joy all around.
While at Safeway, I found some great “Boo” balloons and gift bags that where perfect. I also found a great deal on Mini Coca-Cola cans, so I grabbed them to add to the bags. I also found Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Cake Mix, Betty Crocker™ Whipped Frosting, and Betty Crocker™ Brownie Mix all included in the Stock-Up Sale so I grabbed them to whip up and put in the gift bags. The nice thing about grabbing these mixes, was it made it easy for the kids to join me in making the goodies, and helped them to feel part of the joy and excitement of the project.
Once at home we made all of the items and put them together with a cute little note that I made up to stick in the bags. Then came the fun part! The kids and I snuck out and delivered our little packages to a few neighbors that we selected. The kids where so excited, and really got into the spirit of bringing a little more joy to our neighborhood! It’s a project that we are definitely going to make into a yearly tradition!
