As much as I love to travel and explore new areas, time and money don’t always allow for the adventure. Because I really get the travel bug quite often – more than I can cater to, I’ve been working on perfecting a romantic escape all from the comfort of my own home. I’ve learned some things along the way and thought I’d share with you how to create a romantic escape at home. In order for this to work, you have to plan ahead. I typically fly by the seat of my pants, but if I know I can’t get away, then it’s crucial to plan for a beautiful night in. Here are my go-to steps to make this night special:
Get rid of the clutter – If you don’t have a lot of time to do a big pick up and put away, then at least do a grab and stash. Focus first on the room you’ll most likely use as your romantic oasis. Think of what makes a B&B special and try to make your space mimic that of a beautiful B&B room. Grab all the clutter and stash in in a laundry basket to be put away at a later time. Just make sure it’s out of the room.
Clean – You don’t want to spend your night or weekend looking at the dust bunnies in your room. Check out my recent post on how to get a clean house fast, to see what products I like to use to accomplish this.
Create ambience – Remember that B&B room I just asked you to visualize? Put it in play here by placing candles, books, blankets and all the things that make a B&B so relaxing. Have throw pillows on the bed, blankets to wrap up in and cozy bathrobes to lounge around in. Whether it’s in your bedroom or family room, have a stack of romantic movies (or romantic comedies) to choose from, if movie watching is your thing together. Create a playlist of music to have playing while you eat, talk or even play games together.
Think about all the senses – When planning a romantic evening or weekend together, think about all the senses you use, and have something to delight those senses. Make sure you have high quality bed linens that will make you “feel” incredible, washed in laundry detergent you know will make your nose happy. Choose from Gain Original laundry detergent, which you know you can always count on, or Gain Tropical Sunrise, White Tea Lavender, or a Moonlight Breeze. Depending on the type of escape you want to create, choose the scent that is sure to delight the senses. I suggest planning that romantic escape at home soon because for a limited time, Gain 150 oz. Liquid Laundry Detergent is on Rollback at Walmart for $13.44 (regularly $14.94). Plus, keep an eye out for the RedPlum coupon book in your 2/11 Sunday paper or on pgeveryday.com for $2 off Gain Liquid Detergent (valid through 2/24). That makes your escape cost even less, with Gain detergent down to just $11.44 for 150 oz. of Gain, or less than $.08 per ounce.
Plan your food – If cooking together sparks romance, then plan that together, otherwise plan on takeout or dining out. You don’t want to be worrying about any household chores, dishes included, while enjoying your time together. Purchase pastries and quick and easy breakfast options, and maybe have a stack of takeout menus to choose from.
Plan things to do – Consult one another to find out how you want to spend your time together. Maybe it’s not leaving the house at all, and you want to watch movies all day. Perhaps you want to play board games together, or lay under the stars hand-in-hand in your backyard. You can schedule a hike or time at the lake. Just make sure that whatever you do together will invoke feelings of love and romance for both of you.
Lock the door – Lastly, if your kids are home then lock the bedroom door and let the kids know you’re having a date, and you’re not to be disturbed. If you can manage a babysitter then do that! Turn off the phones and really treat this time together like you’re on vacation. Your relationship matters so respect that and nourish it!
