Body confidence is something I imagine each of us have lacked during periods of our life. For some of us, maybe we’ve never had confidence and that’s really sad. I’m teaming up with the Dove Self-Esteem Project to bring you some tips to build body confidence.
As women, we are known to beat ourselves up far more than necessary and it needs to stop. When I look back at pictures of my high school self I can’t believe I thought I was fat back then! What is wrong with our brains that we go to this place where we simply aren’t good enough? Dove’s Self-Esteem Mission is aimed to educate young people on the importance of self-esteem. Dove believes no young person should be held back from reaching their full potential, yet low body confidence and anxieties over appearance keep young people from being their best selves, affecting their health, friendships, and even performance at school. Believe it or not, that starts with us. If our kids and younger generations hear us ragging on ourselves and our bodies then that’s the example that is set for them.
With savings on basic Dove hygiene essentials at Kroger stores, and these tips to build body confidence I hope we can all work on building ourselves up from the inside out.
Tips to Build Body Confidence
Think it to Believe it
Catch yourself when you start to think a negative thought about your appearance. Redirect that thought into something positive about yourself. It will take a lot of practice, but hopefully in time the natural thoughts that come will be positive ones.
Don’t Judge
Skip the judgment of others and this will likely lead to you criticizing yourself less. If you find yourself making a quick snap judgment based on someone’s makeup, clothes, body shape, etc., stop and find something kind to say. Don’t participate in negative banter with others either! This can help your body confidence as well as others’.
Take Care of Your Health
When we are proactive with our health, we feel better about ourselves. Create an exercise regimen that you’re comfortable with. This doesn’t have to be to lose weight, but helps release endorphins (the “feel good” hormone). Get outside and get some sunshine/ Vitamin D! Visit with your healthcare professional and make sure your hormone levels and blood work are all in good condition. For some you may benefit from talk therapy with a great counselor. There are so many aspects to health, including eating a balanced diet, to make sure your body is getting the nutrients it needs.
Re-evaluate the Media
Are you thumbing through fashion magazines regularly? Perhaps take a step away from the media so you can stop comparing yourself to unrealistic images. When viewing models and celebrities online or in print, remind yourself that “this is not the norm”.
Stay on top of Hygiene
As a part of self care, we should make sure we are bathing regularly and taking care of our basic hygiene needs. This sounds like a no brainer, but when we’re not feeling our best, it’s easy to let self care slide. It’s a viscous cycle. Dove has a wide variety of affordable products to help us stay clean and smell fresh. Knowing we’ve taken those basic steps can really help our self esteem. I’ve been a longtime user of Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant and it’s never failed me. Knowing I have fresh smelling pits helps me stay confident, knowing I smell good.
Stop comparing
Don’t compare yourself to others! We each have different things to offer the world and are beautiful in our own way. It is easy to compare ourselves in appearance or with how good of a “wife, mother, decorator, baker, etc.” we are. I love Instagram but I’ve recently found that I am frequently jealous of other bloggers’ Instagram feeds and beat myself up for not being a better photographer or decorator. I need to knock it off! My feed is “REAL” and there’s something to be said for that.
Remember, you are good enough, strong enough and beautiful enough!
