Today you get to meet Happy, an adorable, loveable Yorkie. Happy’s had a few adventures already, but the Holiday Gift Guide is featuring “Happy’s Christmas Gift” by Geoff Parker Sr. This children’s book is an enchanting Christmas story about this endearing little Yorkie. “Happ” belongs to Nana and she’s sent him off to the Post Office to mail his Christmas Letter to Santa. He makes it to the PostOffice just in time, and on his way home he stops to visit Butcher Joe, who gives him a treat, then Hap meets a little girl named Amy on the street who’s on her way to mail her letter. It turns out Amy and her mom live in a shelter – so Christmas Wishes are of vital importance this year. When she realizes she’s too late for the Post, Hap comes to her rescue, but not without trouble and adventure along the way. Happy sneaks into the back entrance of the Post Office and finds the mailbag headed for the North Pole. He falls into the bag and somehow, Hap ends up at the North Pole and is taken in by the elves – who have the ability to read his mind! So be careful – if you didn’t realize elves have mind-reading in their skill set. After a day of special treatment at the North Pole and the granting of Christmas Wishes, Hap is returned home to Nana on Christmas Day. Amy is surpised Christmas morning with most of her Christmas wishes granted. Once Nana and Hap are reunited, Butcher Joe, Amy and her mother are invited to join in the celebration and feast. It turns out Butcher Joe needs an assistant – so Amy’s mom gets a job, along with an invitation from Nana for Amy and her to move in until they are on their feet. All of this comes about from the magic Elf dust Hap encountered while at the North Pole.
The book is engagingly illustrated, includes a poster of Hap, and reads in both English and Spanish! So not only will your kids learn a little about life’s lessons through some great characters, but they can also learn another language! Your child won’t be disappointed, and parents will enjoy the story, as you read along together. My mom read this story to my 4 kids and all were thoroughly engaged. It is a challenge to get all of my kids to sit through a story and they were loving this tale, and were eager to hear what would happen next.
There will be another book in the series, “Happy as a Fox”, that will be released in February. You can read more about these wonderful books from Happy Tales Publishing. Be sure to check out their Coloring Contest while you are on their site. Your kids will love this book and perfect in time for the holidays! For now, each book also comes with a poster!
