Have you ever wished that you could push a button or clap your hands and “VOILA” the house would be cleaned? Oh boy how I have wished that so many times. Nearly on a daily basis really. Well I have found something that gets me a step closer to that dream. I have discovered Neato Robotics. I’m sure you have all heard of robot vacuums before, but this baby is different. Rather than flip a switch, or push a button, and watch the vacuum wander aimlessly around the house, covering some of the same areas twice and missing other areas, the Neato Robotics vacuums know where they have been!
As you can see in the photo above, while other robots randomly bounce around the room, the Neato Robots scan and systematically clean the room. The Neato products are able to do this because they have a laser eye that uses infrared light to scan the surroundings five times every second. This results in a highly accurate 360° map of the room and any obstacles the room may have. Once the map has been created, the robot proceeds to clean in patterns of straight, overlapping lines.
Neato Robotics do not just sweep. In fact, they have claimed that their vacuums are the most powerful robot vacuum on the market! The thing that makes this vacuum even more special, as if it wasn’t special enough already, is that it is also a bagless vacuum. The first time I went to a bagless vacuum I swore I’d never go back.
Because of the Neato’s ability to avoid obstacles, I am able to turn it on upstairs and forget about it. I don’t have to worry that the vacuum will fall down the stairs because it senses them! You can also schedule the vacuum to clean at the same time every day, ever other day, or 3 times a week! Then when the robot’s battery is low, it will take care of itself by returning to it’s base to charge. When the charge is complete it will go back to cleaning right where it left off!
On a side note, it is a bit noisy, but it doesn’t bother me at all. The kids just don’t like when it is working it’s magic while they are watching tv. Every so often, you may want to take your regular vacuum around to get all of the edges as the Neato doesn’t always get right up against the base boards. I could just sit and watch it all day, because it’s so fascinating to me.
Can I just tell you that this vacuum makes me really happy?
Neato Robotics come in two different models: the Neato XV-21, which is designed specifically for allergy sufferers and pet owners, and the Neato XV-11. I received the XV-21 for allergy sufferers and pet owners, which will pick up even the toughest pet hair. This special filter retains more than three times the amount of dust particles as standard filters, which is perfect for removing allergens from the home. The Neato XV-21 costs just $30 more than the XV-11 and rightfully so as this vacuum has a special combination of bristle and blade brushes to help pick up more pet hair, dander and fibers.
